Eagle F1s - verdict so far

Featured Replies

Hey peeps

So after much deliberation I decided to go ahead and purchase a set of Eagle F1 AS 2's. Previously I was running a mixed set on the rear axle (Conti S3/Goodyear extreme grip) and Horace Headways on the front. It's obvious from the front tyres that this was the reason I wanted all out new as they were to put it frankly, terrible. Not to mention a curb moment driving down some country lanes where I felt the Headways were to blame for a complete lack of grip and a very twitchy rear end moment that literally caused me to slam into a curb and scrunch my left front/rear alloys. Driving skill doesn't come into the equation, stupid tyres :p

The F1's up to now are really sweet and the noise reduction is very noticeable indeed. Grip wise, I haven't really put them through their paces yet but on my drive to Portmadog in the summer hols I will certainly give it some welly and see if these tyres deserve the rave reviews they receive. Overall, I am very happy with my purchase and paid £417 at Jeffery's Performance Tyres in Warrington. This included them price matching the tyres from online (think it was Black Circles or Oponeo), fitment and wheel balancing and tracking. Before you say anything, the tracking was pretty bad and apparently it was simply due to the fact I hit the curb in a bad way and was even asked if I'd had a collision.

Prolly could have had it done cheaper but to be fair, the service was really quick and they even put nitrogen in the tyres as a gesture. Yeah, bit of a gimmick and not even sure if it's necessary. So, if your planning on getting some tyres for an Octy VRS, these are top notch. One very happy bunny here :)

My last set on the Superb were F1s and I must say they were very good, however I've recently swapped them out and now have Goodyear Efficient Grip on the rear and Dunlop Sport Fast Response on the fronts.

The Dunlop are actually really good in the damp / wet conditions, tyre noise isn't noticeably different to the F1s but that's probably more that the EG are cancelling out the Dunlop.

Hardly surprising you noticed an improvement from Horace Headways.....had to Google them to find out if they are a genuine brand of tyre

Thanks for the review and comments.

Just pricing up the F1's for my car now

OP - Presume you've got 225/40/18s on your Octavia?

I've had F1A2s fitted to the front of my Superb for 14k miles and have ordered a replacement set. I had Michelin PS3s on the car when I bought it and whilst good, the wet weather performance below 4mm dropped off significantly. You sacrifice a bit of turn in on F1A2 compared to the PS3s but prefer the feel through the corner. They just grip and grip and grip. I very really see the TCS light, only on hard acceleration on wet roads (and with 2.5mm or below).

I've gone for a complete set all round as the PS3s lasted just under 12k miles and cost more.

I used F1 Autocentres and have paid £352 all in for 4 x Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 92Y XL 225/40YR18 (#2254018GDY04). Was priced at £90.10 ea yesterday plus I used the code TW2OFF for an additional £2 a corner off. These worked out about £24 more for 4 than some Cooper tyres. I checked my local tyre places and they didn't have stock and said they couldn't get any from suppliers for several weeks.

They are thee best tyre I have used on a car period and suits the Superb very well

Yes my tire size is indeed 225/40/R18. Good price too from F1 Autocentres. Will look into this myself next time, hopefully after many thousands of miles.

I fully intend to make the most out of these and get every bit of performance I can, even though I am tempted now and again to throttle it. Mind you, my previous car was a Fiat Punto 1.2 Sport   :D

As said, early days but can't recommend them enough and appreciate peoples acknowledgement of my review. It's nice to be able to give feedback as this particular brand pops up on here a lot and many a person always has this in their consideration.

I run eagle f1's on the rear of my r32 at the moment i rate them very good. Going to put the same tyres on the fronts once they are due for replacement

All new F1A2s fitted to the 'perb and taken some noise level readings. These were taken with an app on my phone. Phones been compared to a calibrated noise meter (works) and was 1dB out so is fairly accurate!

Here is a comparison of the car sat on the drive, engine running but no movement:

40MPH across that horrible asphalt surface they now put down thats mainly chippings:
