Moving on to the Cupra ST

Featured Replies

After 2.5 years of fun with my VRS Blackline I decided I wanted something new. Was seriously considering a new petrol vrs as my mileage doesn't necessitate a diesel however after checking various broker websites I couldn't believe it is cheaper to get the Leon Cupra ST than it is a similar spec'd VRS. The Cupra also has 280bhp and the limited slip differential. So looks like that is the one I will be going for.

Seems odd That Seat are prepared to give bigger discounts than Skoda to me.

It's a great car, certainly more entertaining than the VRS IMO. The diff needs to be in the more aggressive mode IMO but then works well (although mine suffered badly with wheel hop when coming off the line hard). Equipment is also impressive (variable damper control for instance isnt even an option on the skoda) and yes, 6k off was achievable in March - very impressive indeed - not sure where current discount levels are? :)

I can get Cupra st in monsoon grey, sunroof, blackline pack, sound pack and full leather for £26,900. Then Seat will pay £1000 deposit for me and I get 3 years HP finance at 0% providing I pay 50% of purchase price on collection. No brainier.

Agreed, no brainer. Have you tried broker4cars.co.uk? They were the cheapest when I looked. Good luck with the new car :)

Best price was from drivethedeal although all were much of a muchness. Similar spec'd vrs (where spec is available) was almost £27,500

SEAT are now where Skoda were 5 years ago.

They are now the poor relation in the rather crowded VAG family.

5 years ago Skoda's were great value, now they are more 'desirable' especially in vRS format so the prices and discounts subsequently reflect this.

Want a cheap VAG car and are OK to tolerate the badge snobbery? Then SEAT is for you.

If you don't need the large boot on the Octavia then I agree, the Leon is a no-brainer given the deals available right now.

You are probably right but I don't really see much difference in badge status between Skoda and Seat and Seat depreciate less according to the Glass guide.

MINI 16.40%

Land Rover 17.00%

Toyota 17.50%

Honda 17.90%

Volkswagen 18.30%

Smart 18.60%

Jeep 18.80%

Audi 19.50%

SEAT 19.60%

Skoda 20.30%

Cupra ST boot is about 30 litres less than Octavia but you get variable floor with Cupra ST as standard which is handy.

That's really surprising as I've been tracking the pricing of both since January. Broker4cars aren't quite as cheap now but still a few hundred less than DTD.

Just checked again and you a right broker4cars is a couple of hundred under DTD on the standard spec Cupra ST. Not sure If adding optional extras makes it more expensive, some brokers have bigger discounts on options.

Think I decided on DTD due to reviews I had heard from others. The cheapest people I found were proposing to register the car in their name for 4 months before putting me as registered owner....certainly wanted to steer clear of them.

Be sure to put some pics up once the new arrival has arrived, lovely car.

The estate version I think is the nicest looking currently out on the market :)

Will do....as long as I am still welcome lol.

Thing I also like is that I probably will only see one or two a month....unlike the vrs estate which are pretty common/popular!

I have around 20 week build time though which will be a pain!

Focus st is another car that makes the octavia look poor value now due to the discounts that can be had.

I am currently eating for a diesel st3 hatch with loads of kit- full leather recaro's, adaptive xenons, heated front windscreen, 8"nav screen with 10 speaker upgrade, bluetooth, auto dimming mirror, auto lights/wipers, keyless entry etc etc etc

Even with metallic paint i am paying £21800, an estate would be about £800 more. Yes i know its not a big as an octavia  but its a hell of a lot cheaper and with a lot more kit.

The 250hp petrol version is the same price.

Yeah that looks like the one I am going to get. Monsoon grey with blackline pack.

Looked at Focus St but decided against it as a bit shouty for me.... But a lot of car for the cash

They are the *******s....id like a hatch with the sub 8 pack.

I tinkered around on carwow...My Mk3 Octavia has lost so much money I am stuck with it for now and no dealer can help me out of it at present.....but best finance discount from Skoda was 7% and nearly 17% with Seat......I was able to get a loaded Leon ST FR 184 for about 23k v 25.5k for a less well equipped vRS.

Seats realistically are probably worse news than the Skoda in terms of retained value (they dont hold their money well either) but alot of car for 23k and even more so a spec'd Cupra ST at 27k.

According to Glass they hold their value slightly better but the big discounts offered is bound to have knock on effect in second hand market.

Hopefully should get around 14k for my blackline vrs when the time comes which will cover my 50% deposit and the rest will be paid off over the years at 0%

14k for the Blackline is a bit strong IMHO to expect trade, they have held thier value well but the prevalence of affordable Mk3's means theyve taken a bit of a hit. You might get 10/10.5k for a hatch or 11.5/12k for an estate....maybe a little extra if DSG equipped.

Bare in mind my 2014 registered 63 plate 2.0 Elegance estate Mk3 with 23k miles only books about 13k trade via a Skoda main dealer.....others would offer less.

WBAC offer is pretty good....genuinely wishing you all the best with getting 15k for it private...IMHO that'd be alot of money to spend privately on a late 2/3 year old Mk2 TDI, Blackline or otherwise....I sold mine for about 16.5k trade (and that was strong money trade on the basis i bought another car) well over a year ago and that was a DSG estate.

I am not expecting 15k but that is what they are on trader at the moment. By the time I sell I would be happy with 14k but would settle around 13.5k.

Immaculate condition with only 15k on the clock.

I sold mine to wbac two weeks ago for probably a bit more than i would have taken for a private sale.

A 13 plate vrs estate diesel manual with 19,000 miles. After they knocked a bit off for a couple of stone chips and took their rip off fee i ended up with £13,005 in my bank account. Fair enough really when i had it advertised for £13,295 for private sale and expected to be haggled down a bit.

That's an excellent price. Is yours dsg?

  • Author

Sorry didn't read it properly! Mine is a 62 plate so that makes the difference I guess... Should have waited a few extra weeks and had it registered as 13 instead....but typically I was impatient!

As much as I love the look of the Cupra ST I still hanker after the X-perience...

This will be a proper rare car.

4x4 but 130bhp light at 150  :D

Nope manual and none black line.

I had a bit of interest privately from here and piston heads but then i got an email from wbac saying the price on my car had gone up for that weekend only. As theres an office just down the road I thought i would call in with the intention of just walking away if they took the mick and knocked a load off because i wasn't desperate to sell in a hurry. They didn't so I sold to them, hassle free, and to be honest probably for £200-300 more than i would have took as a private sale.
