Contemplating Selling the VRS.....

Featured Replies

Hi all

Leaning towards the idea of selling my Mk1 VRS...

Since buying a Scout in November I have only driven it a few hundred miles...

The Cambelt is due and it would need a set of tyres within a year...

Having said that it is a 2 owner model... full history (receipts for everything) and MOT till December...

Question is:  Do I spend a bit of money on it now making it a top notch motor? Or have they reached their peak and they are now what they are...

I don't really want to sell it but I have no genuine reason to keep it other that I like it... Quite an expensive ornament...

Thoughts please??

Cheers

If it's got MOT then any money you spend before selling you'll be unlikely to recoup in the sale price.

They have held their value quite well for the last few years but are steadily going down. I don't think they'll go up in value any time soon so I wouldn't hold onto it based on that.

appreciate your reply.  Im prepared to spend a few quid, replacing a few scuffed bits or a bit of polish here and there.... nothing large though... Once I've got it sorted I may post on this site, Id rather it go to someone who is interested in them and will appreciate it..

It's a tricky one, be nice to keep it but it would be a shame if it didn't get used much. It's either very good standard ones or very well done modified ones which hold or increase in value. But this is very speculative...like you say if you do sell it it would be nice for it to go to someone who cares.

yeah, its an origninal one.. except a panel air filter and a few replaced hoses ... spend thousands on it.... but its not getting used as I have a Scout.. which does everything I want. And it cant stay on the parents drive forever lol... looking for something to tow behind the scout as a weekend holiday bit of fun ...

So if anyones interested in knowing more,. just shout

Wish I could afford to get another I'd have it!

All it takes is that one buyer who appreciates its pedigree to pay top dollar.

As an example, I owned a lovely mk1 vrs 2 years ago, loved it but sold it because of getting a work car. Then all of a sudden a few months back I just took a notion that no other car would do, and I went and bought the one nearest to me! So if it's what someone wants, and you have a good one, you can still ask good money!

very true.  I would keep it, its a real gem, and its NEVER broken down or missed a beat since Ive owned it... even in the cold etc its always started.  Just a shame that economically its not justifiable to keep 2 cars, and only use the one...

Once Ive finished  sprucing it up I may put on here in the for sale bit, so keep your eyes out guys, someone could get a lovely bit of fun
