Tablet suggestions

Featured Replies

Lots of negative comments around the web regarding Samsung's addiction to bloatware.

worth remembering if you've only got money for a low end device and you're looking at a Samsung tab

The thing is with most of the bloatware on the tablets and phones is that they can be either bypassed (such as touchwiz by using another launcher such as Nova), uninstalled or disabled.

Got the Tab Pro and found the launcher to be a problem with the "newspaper" page, put Nova launcher on it and never saw that page again. Also disabled a number of the google play items (music, video, books, etc) and it runs like a dream.

do you have to root it to disable these? I have a 2012 Nexus 7 and it is struggling with Lollipop and could do with some things being disabled

If the bloat is in the factory image then sometimes you do have to root to get rid. It depends on how it has been set up.

I've not had a Samsung for some time but I do remember there was a large amount of crap I couldn't get rid of.

That's the reason my phone is now a moto g 4g. Precious little bloatware and £105 sim free

It's called side sync, but you need something like a Galaxy S4 onwards I believe,  to pair with a reasonably modern Tablet.

Thanks Amanda got it working ok. Apparently it needs a minimum Kit Kat 4.4 to work, which both my devices have

It's fun thing and a bit spooky the way it totally mimics your phone and it's screen layout   Whoooooo whoooooo (couldn't find a ghostly smilie)

Get yourself to the Google Nexus community pages. Known issue with the 2012 nexus 7.

It was fine till the 5.1.1 update last week

Factory reset and it's good as new ☺

Sainsbury got the Linx 8 and 10 inch tabs on offer again £80 & £120. Worth a shot if you fancy a win tab

Yeah saw those. But HP have the pavilion x2 at £165 when you factor in a discount friends and family price I can access. Might be the way ahead

Galaxy tab s 8.4.  A great tablet, after both versions of Nexus 7, but the 16GB of memory is seriously pathetic if you have a lot of apps, maps or games.  They do a 32GB one but you cannot get it in the UK.  A 32GB or more micro SD card was a must for me.

First thing was to delete all of the bloat off the home screens - Samsung apps and magazines and so on.  Get rid of active wallpapers, widgets and stuff that just clutters up and slows down the system.  The tablet runs nice and fast.  My wife has one too, but not rooted, and she has Facebook with Messenger, whcih is a memory and resource hog.

I use Nova launcher, and I have rooted so I can use Titanium backup to "freeze" unwanted system apps and even to uninstall them should I wish.

There are lots of threads on XDA Developers website about bloat and how to remove it, and what you can remove.

You sound very tech-savvy, I have an unrootable Toshiba so I'm stuck with the bloatware I wish I could remove.

However, "You cannot get it in the UK" doesn't sound net-savvy at all.

Shopping is a worldwide game now.  I online shopped for one kid's phone in France, and the others Converse all-stars in Arizona.

If you want a product, just buy it and get it shipped.

Both of the above limited edition items were cheaper than similar from UK sources BTW.

Worldwide shopping yes.  Worldwide warranty, no.

True, but if it's a must have - cant be got here, what are you going to do?

For example, a piece of sports equipment on sale here for £35 sells on ebay in the US for $200 to $300.

If you lived over there you'd be mad not to import your own.

I sent 2 to a friend in the US who paid me $75 each including postage.

I made nothing, he got an import bargain.
