Unusual RPM first start of the day

Featured Replies

So today I started my car and noticed that the RPM stayed on around 1300 for about 2 to 3 minutes then dropped back down to 900 1000, this is the first time this has happened. Ps: its an 08 htp

Thats normal

Just the choke by the sounds of it.

Mine doesnt go that high though tbh. But i wouldnt worry about it

It's cold start fuel enrichment, cars haven't had chokes for years where a choke is a flap that moves to block the air intake and cold idle speeds used to approach 2000rpm.  The enrichment  (these days) is done by increasing the fuel injection time.

Yeah i know its not actually a choke, but couldnt think of the name of what is is aha.

Its not done by a wax capsule then? It is on some FI motorbikes

It's done on a temperature sensor , if the engine is below a certain temperature the ecu uses a warm up map , which can give more fuel, altered timing and higher throttle openings. On autos it can alter the shift points when the engine is cold go allow it to warm up quicker

Bit more complicated again then.

Bike just uses a wax capsule set at a certain temp, once its satisfied the revs begin to drop to the normal Tickover.
