Fitting a new head unit

Featured Replies

Hi, just thought that I would give you all an update with regard to the Blaupunkt combined AM/FM/DAB aerial that is now fitted to my Superb. It was fitted and looks an almost identical replacement to the original factory fitted aerial.

In operation it is fine and I get strong signals on all bands. In particular I have noticed that with my old glass mounted dab aerial it did drop the signal in certain areas. This has not proved to be the case with the roof aerial. Although it is expensive at about

Yeah I've had a dig around for VAG replica aerials and they come out at over

With regards to the fascia I don't know about Furby's as I drive it's big brother!

FM amplifier is ok albeit a little expensive, but for the sake of a few quid.............

The harness isn't necessary IMO, 99% of aftermarket stereo's have the ability to alter the wiring.

With your new stereo you will get two bunches of wires with rectangular plastic connectors on the end, usually one will be black, the other will be brown but it doesn't matter too much, they have special tabs so you can't mix them up.

On the bunch of wires for the power supply that come out of the back of your new stereo, you will have a red cable and a yellow cable, each of these cables will have a connector halfway along with a transparent plastic cover, if these are swapped (RED>YELLOW, YELLOW>RED) then all will be good.

Apart from that, the two connectors from your new unit will plug straight into the car's wiring loom that comes out of the dash.

But it's all good and well me saying all this as I have done it many times.

If you aren't keen on swapping wires then go for the harness but I couldn't justify a tenner for something that does the same job as swapping 2 wires.

By the way, what is the make of your new head unit?

That Fascia adapter is crap, looks like the Autoleads one which rattles. Skoda sell one and its
