Black Grill Surround

Featured Replies

Spotted this the other day now available from Superskoda for those who are interested.

I'm still waiting for another 30% off event to get my chrome grill bits

Great news[emoji106]

Looks like it's cheaper than the dealer price too.

I'll be going down the painted route I think.

It is on their site, I noticed yesterday.

Just waiting for the honeycomb grill to be available.

Cheers for the link - interesting, but I'm also still holding out for a discount code so I can get my chrome grill inserts (to go with all the other extra chrome I've added to the boot and door sills).

Plasti Dip time I think. I've got a couple of cans unused [emoji4]

Mines not a keeper so I don't want to fork out really.

I managed to do this recently, using a 3rd party grill surround from a seller called kiba_shop in eBay. I paid around £35 delivered which is good, especially since SuperSkoda Kopacek don't ship anything bigger than a postage stamp to the UK anymore. It's a pain getting the old surround off regardless of whether you're trying to keep it intact or not but well worth it.

There's four Torx screws to remove once you open the bonnet to release the whole grill.

Once here give the grill the wash as so not to cake you in dirt when trying to remove the surround!  The surround has metal clips with a slit in them, the grill itself then has a plastic shim that fits into the slit to hold it in place.

The easiest way I found to do this is using some trim removal tools and a flat head screwdriver. Prise the shim out of the metal clip using a screwdriver (middle screwdriver in below pic) then use the trim removal tool to separate the surround from the grill (bottom orange tool in below pic). I started from the bottom right corner and worked clockwise. I broke 2 of the surround clips in total but managed to keep the old one intact.

Fitting was the easiest part, just clip your surround back on with some pressure, pop the grill back and refasten the Torx screws.

Big visual benefit for a small outlay of cost and effort!

Just had my black grill delivered :) Do you need to remove the bumper to detach the grill? Once you get out the four screws on top how does it detach from the bumper. Cheers Nath

No bumper removal required, once you take out the four screws the grill just slots out, pull it upwards tor release.

Finally managed to get this done yesterday. I could not release the grill from the bumper now matter how hard I tried so I removed the bumper which wasn't too difficult. Even with the bumper off I found it quite hard to separate the grill from the bumper. Luckily I had two grills so I had installed the black cover to a Rapid grille a few days before. While the car is in bits I thought I would upgrade the washer bottle to the 5.4 L version.
