steering angle sensor fabia 1.4mpi 2000

Featured Replies

i have an intermittent fault with the power steering on my mk1 fabia 1.4 8v. occasionally the power steering warning lamp shows on the dash but will go off when the engine is stopped and stay off for a while after re starting. when the light is on there is a variable amount of assist.

at night the headlights also flicker.

from what i have read on here i'm thinking most likely cause will be the steering angle sensor. does that seem right ??

the car is new to me and i need to get things in good order. up to now i'm really happy with the fabia.

does anyone have a part number for the sensor for a 2000 fabia 1.4 mpi ? or have one for sale ? can anyone recommend a place to get one that is at a good price ?

is there a link or guide to replacing the sensor ?

battery voltage is good and charges normally. i will check the fluid level when i can get the battery off over the weekend. thanks in advance

just been out to check battery again. noticed it is charging at 14.2 volts. would this be an issue ? the battery is also a halfrauds 41amp affair. the power steering pump is constantly whirring when you listen up close

What would you like it to be charging at, some less perfect voltage?

Have you checked the fluid?

They tend to make a noise when getting low.

thought the battery would be nearer 14.5 at revs.  i'll check the fluid over the weekend when i can get time to take everything off to get to it.

thanks

It would be if the PAS pump weren't running constantly

Replacing the sensor is technically easy but physically tricky, jack the front of the car as high as possible and use axle stands. Two torx screws hold the sensor in place and the cable is held loosely in clips all the way round to the pump, remove the N/S front wheel, arch liner and the lower N/S front bumper blank and foglight if you have one to access the plug on the pump, refitting is the reverse of removal.

I got a brand new genuine sensor on ebay for £70.

What I meant was, I bought one on ebay for £70 and fitted it, yours is the type with the long cable permanently attached, same as mine, not the type with a separate cable. You can't get it wrong.
