New wannabe Fabia Vrs 1.4tsi owner

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm hoping to buy a Fabia Vrs 1.4 tsi with the dsg, so much googling i've given myself a headache....so much chatter about bad engines and i've read a lot but still want one.  Budget was initially £8k but from what i've read and seen for sale i decided i can squeeze a little more to get one of the newer CHTE engines with at least a little skoda warranty which allows me to then pay £500-£600 for the 2 year extended warranty just in case.  Personally I'd like a scooby and my mum (who lives me with and will be sharing use of the car) would like an automatic toyota aygo....we've come to the skoda fabia (vw polo gti/seat ibiza cupra) as a compromise.  The skoda wins on cost (vw polo gti £2k more for the same) and practicality and styling (ibiza 3dr only and futtbugly, personal opinion).

I have a few questions - buying 2 to 3 year old skoda fabia...the skoda dealer offers 1 year used skoda warranty.  At 3 years old i can buy the extended warranty....so does it make a difference if it's 2 years 2 month old or 2 years 10 month old..is the extended warranty only available for a limited time once the car reaches 3 years old? And in this case does it even give me any benefit from buying from an approved skoda dealer?  If I bought it from Joe Bloggs at 2 years 8 months old....still got 4 months manufacturer warranty, i can still then get the extended warranty.....so any concerns about engines, oil consumption, squirters, DSG service campaign, ecu updates, breather/valve mods...new engine....would still be covered?

Sorry I know I'm rambling....if anyone can give some advice....I have looked and read a lot but

Hi guys!

Welcome to the forum.

You seem to have covered all the things you need to consider,

& read up on the subject.

There are so many threads and posts in the Mk2 Fabia Section that will answer the questions you are asking.

If you could get there on Saturday there is a gathering on Mk2 Fabia vRS Owners and ex owners and others at Santa Pod.

It is a RWYB Day and only £10 Entry.

Mk1 Owners going as well on Saturday.

There is a pinned post at the top of the Mk2 Fabia Section.

Skoda UK are going to be represented i believe by people from their events team.

PS

Regarding a 'Skoda Approved Extended Warranty' with Car Care Limited.

You will be able to take this out at the end of the Original Manufacturers Warranty,

1 year £399, or better 2 years £547

You need to be sure the car has been Serviced to the Schedule / Guidelines, Not Modified & not Remapped.

That is not easy, but buying a Skoda Approved Car, have Skoda UK CS tell you the Service & Warranty History.

Slight issue.

Skoda & Seat Twinchargers have been bought by Members here and others recently

from Main Seat or Skoda Dealers & when they have turned out to be Using too Much oil,

they are being told, 'Know Issue' and we are not interested, go away.

Well the issues are known, and have been by VW, Seat, Skoda & Audo since 2009-2010,

& even known on the revised engine since 2012.

Yet they keep selling them, and selling them with a Used Car Warranty.

If they have a known issue, then they are knowingly selling them with a potential issue / fault.

Link just to show the various issues, and some are ongoing,

some CAVE engine cars have had replacement engines replaced,

and some early CTHE that had engines replaced early 2013 now have the replacement engine failing.
