Octavia Scout engines

Featured Replies

Hi, I'm thinking about moving up from my trusty old Fabia (04) to an Octavia Scout (11-12).

What in forum members opinion is the best engine to go for - nor necessarily power, but reliability. I'm used to a chain drive, not a cambelt.

regards

Brian

Choice is limited, on a 2011 / 2012 you'll be looking at the CR140 diesel, most are manual.

There are a few DSG's out there but few and far between.

There is a 1.8 petrol but these are very, very rare.

The diesel engine is well proven and there are no well documented issues. Just make sure the Haldex (4x4 system) has had it's oil changed every 40K (or 3 years on newer GenII systems).

Four petrol's on Autotrader, this the most I've ever seen for sale!

If you don't do many miles though the 1.8 is a lovely motor. Just coming upto 30k now with mine. It's also a bit of a q car performance wise even stock.

Yes their is that though  !!!

Don't forget about DPF and duel mass flywheel on the diesel though !!

Oh and the ABS module that will fail on them both !! :D

The DPF could be an issue at the Op's mileage however as the owner of an all be it PD engined scout on 133k miles I have seen no indication of DPF, DMF or ABS issues.

What about a 1.9 TDI 4x4 Octavia? Last ones were made in 2010 and in my opinion that's the 'Scout' to go for with the best reliability.

+1 for the 2.0 CR no common failures reported here,  the non CR diesels are too noisy for my sensitive ears :-)

144k for me, no dpf issues yet, I've had a new clutch and dmf bit I tow with mine.

Love my 1.8 TSI '10 Scout - awesome all round car.

Not as quick as my vRS, obviously, but as said above, a sleeper in slippery conditions, especially from a standing start due to the 4WD.

Also very comfortable - a cruiser which just feels safe, solid & very well screwed together.

Whichever engine you choose, it's a great choice.
