So.... What next then Scout mk3 ? Probably not ..

Featured Replies

Well my Scout is coming upto 30k and 5 years old. I have no real plans to replace it because it still drives and looks like new.

I have however, as you do, been sniffing around to see what would be available if I did decide to change.

The Scout is my 4th new Skoda and in a perfect world I would like another Scout.

Not going to happen though because :

a) I would want another petrol

B) I paid 18.4k for my Scout with Xenons, boot floor, curtain airbags, maxidot, heated seats, spare and metallic paint.

Even if I decided to go the diesel route the Scouts are now out of my price bracket and the new Superb will be even more so.

So.... When the time comes what 4x4 estate with as much rooms as the Scout or Superb am I going to buy ?

It's looking like it won't be another new Skoda at least :-(

I'm in a similar position, we paid £14.5K for our 2008 diesel Scout back in 2009. A proper Skoda bargain, those days are over.

It now has 50,000 miles on it but is mechanically sound and cosmetically good, it will be run now til it dies.

No real reason or need to change but am always looking. Due to the experiences with this one I would have another Scout but not at today's Skoda prices.

The 'modern' way to drive a new Skoda is PCP.

Lot's of very good deals on Scouts, less than £1000 down as a deposit and £199 / month for three years. After that hand the keys back and walk away.

Not for me but it does make a new car affordable for the many.

A couple of the guys down here in AU have gone from Mk2 to Mk3 Scout and they sound very disapointed in various aspects of the vehicle.

Uncomfortable seats, obvious penny-pinching in the interior, reduced fuel range, worse actual economy, etc.

They recomend any MK2 owner to stick with it, get a remap & possibly increase maintenance to ensure longevity.

Interesting ! Cheers for that brad !

Interesting, I was briefly in a mk3 scout recently and thought is was nice inside. Perhaps you have to live with one for a while. i'll be keeping my mk2 for quite some time. I probably won't buy a new one next time not at those prices, possibly a used/ex demo or a second hand A4 Allroad/ passat Alltrack.

Traded in my 2010 Scout for a MK3 (both diesels), now 3 months into ownership I'm not disappointed with the new version.  Partly due to the change from PD to CR engine but the Mk3 just seems a more refined drive, getting improved mpg & in standard spec is better equipped. I thought the Mk2 was a great car but IMO the new version is even better.  Yes prices have gone up but offset by good trade in values (even with 70k miles), be interesting to see if current car has such good residual in 5 years time.
