"uprated" front bushes?

Featured Replies

Has anyone fitted uprated (Powerflex etc) front bushes to their Octavia? if so:

1. What make / where to buy?

2. Is it a straightforward swap / any specialist tools needed?

3. Any good?

This is for a 2001 TDi.

Thanks in advance.

Im also interested in doing this when I have the suspension changed on my 4x4 1.8T, anyone done this? :)

Ok, just had a quote of

A certain very well known Techie fitted some powerflex bushes to the front ARB on my Octy vRS together with Eibach springs and together with the Neuspeed 28mm rear ARB totally transforms the car.

Cannot itemise which is best as all fitted together, but well worth doing.

Thanks again "Very well known Techie".

As discussed the last time you blundered into a thread the Octavia 1 front suspension is very different to the Fabia.

Nowconsider yourself slapped you naughty boy.

Thanks again "Very well known Techie".

I have them on my 4x4, I went for powerflex but they kept popping out of the wishbone so powerflex had to make me some specials that were even further uprated, all is now well.

you need a press to get them into the wishbones and you will also likely need your alignment checking afterwards.

I was knocking out ARB bushes about every 10 months on my 2.9 XRi 4x4 Sierra.

I had fitted, the Powerflex "jobies" ,,,,,,,,, never had to change them again!

That was at least 6 years trouble free ARB bush problems & god knows how many tyre replacements!

Powerflex highly ,,,,,, recomended ,,,,,, But EddyH ,,,,,, are you saying there is a problem with the standard bushes from Powerflex?

Have they, are they now selling the upgraded version which you have ????

Need a definitive on this mate!

By the way, welcome back Beretta, trust you had a good-en

Cheers Wayne, lucky to get out of Miami on one of the last planes out before the Hurricane hit.

Give us a pm to arrange a date for the drink.

I think they still supply the version I was originally supplied, however they have sold thousands of these and AFAIK have only had mine and one other pop out. The other occurence was solved by replacing with a new normal set. However when this was tried on mine it popped out after a 2min test drive. It may be that mine was an isolated case and prehaps the wishbone itself was outside normal tolerance for the whole in which the bush fits. Anyway the end result was powerflex used some stiffer material in the existing mould to make me some special bushes and also paid for the wishbone to be replaced (as the bush popping out had caused wear on the wishbone itself).

I'd say you can buy the standard powerflex bushes with confidence as if there are any problems they will sort it, in my case powerflex covered all the labour and parts costs. However my case may have been helped by me having the bushes supplied and fitted by JBS who are an authorised resller and dealt with powerflex on my behalf.

What can happen is sometimes when a bush is pressed out of the arm the arm spreads a bit and the bush then doesnt have the interferance fit to hold it in.

Blimey, that lot of agro sounds like quite a bit of "down time" with the car.

Anyway, as you said, your's may have been an isolated case.

My confidence in Powerflex is restored.

Cheers Eddy.

No real downtime, the car can be driven with the bush 'popped'. As for labour time replacing the bushes it's not a long job.
