  • Very happy mate, done a grand job.   Quick pic from Yesterdays National meet at Rockingham

  • Not much to report lately.   Had a few close calls with regards to someone buying her, but mostly time wasters.   Just been keeping it clean, and enjoying the performance.   Had her in for an ea

Well, cars dropped off at garage, for air con compressor fitting.

Hopefully from tomorrow it should be more bearable in these hot days we are having lately.

Also, my new alarm siren has arrived from ebay (its actually used but it must be off a late Octavia as the part number is a D revision)

Not bad for £20, as my old sirens batteries had run out.

I'll be fitting it this weekend, so hopefully thats everything that needs doing is done.

Then it can be back to buying things for fun, not necessity :)

Well, just fitted my revision D alarm siren, and all is working perfectly

Felt really good, doing it myself, rather than pay someone.

I know its not a hard job really, but to someone who usually shy's away from a spanner its still an achievement.

I now feel like a master mechanic :D

Took me about 45 mins from start to finish (and that included scraping loads of crap from under the arches.

Really happy, and I'd definitely recommend the DIY approach to anyone should their alarm fail, or the batteries run out (6 year life span apparently)

So a mere £20 all in, and 45 minutes time spent, and thats another job crossed off the to-do list :)

Cheers

Todays small job involved removing the old pollen filter and replacing it with a new one.

Cant believe how much crud fell out when I opened the slide lock!

Bit of a difference in the filters :D

It looks like the one on the left is a carbon filter.

I don't know Martin, I just asked for a replacement pollen filter at the parts desk.

Is there a difference in what they do?

Pretty sure the carbon filter also filters out pollutants??

Pretty sure the carbon filter also filters out pollutants??

Yes the carbon is the more active filter.

Thanks fellas

Would it be worthwhile swapping it, or just live with it a year and change to a carbon one again?

Personally I would live with it then put a carbon filter in next time.

The new 1 uv put in is a carbon one m8  and the one you have taken out looks like a cheap non gen one.

The non carbon filter is completely white and the carbon has black bits like your new one.

Ok, under pressure from the missus to sell one of my cars, so Im going to try one last time with the VRS.

If this doesn't sell, then I'll have to try the Clio I guess

As I work in the steel industry my job is fragile to say the least.

See my for sale advert for more info.

Cheers

Damo

You would probably get a quicker sale with the clio

Where or how did you do them?

Where or how did you do them?

These were already done when I got the car, but I've done them on previous cars easy enough.

Remove your headlight, heat the sealant around the light (some put them in the oven, but I use a hairdryer or heat gun)

When hot gently pry apart using a knife to aid the process

Split the headlights and spray the chrome surrounds whatever colour you want

Get some silicon sealant and stick back together

Easy :)

Have you done an octavia set yourself?

I have done others but have heard these are quite hard.

Some have screws ive done in the past in silly places.everywhere ive read about doing it has given up.

Sweet ride btw and thanks for a quick reply!

No worries

Not done the Octy ones, but I can't see them being any harder than other cars

Thanks, I will pass on your nice comment to the new owner

Cheers
