Does anyone have these audi alloys on their octavia?

Featured Replies

Just got them embarrassingly cheap, they have 50 profile tyres on so not sure they will fit as they are. Would like to keep them if they do as I find the ride on 45's quite hard. Might have to work something out with the centre caps or maybe live without them. If anyone has them could I see a photo?

A bit more info on what they are please?

I'm assuming 17x7.5 ET45 (look on the back of the spokes) with 225/50r17 tyres (Bridgestone RE050A)?  If so, then yes I have.  When you confirm I can tell you the good / bad :-)

It says 7.5j x 17 h2 et28 I figure the et was the problem but don't know. For what I paid not overly concerned if they don't fit

Have fitted them and they stick out of the arches a bit at the front, hard to see how much as the tyres are 225's and themselves poke out of the rim by around 10mm, my original wheels were  a little back from the arch and I think the difference is 17mm to them. Just thinking of putting 205's  on, what do you guys think?

Without being offensive, you need to think these things through a bit more rather than randomly plucking figures out of the air.  eg: 205 tyre - what aspect ratio were you considering and what is available at a reasonable cost?

I've run the same outward poke.  It's fit fine if you are running stock height suspension.  If it's lowered then maybe not.

What centrebore are they?  If 66.6mm you'll need hub rings to bring it down to 57.1mm.

The rears will be perfect with a 225/45r17 tyre.  The fronts will poke about 8mm.  The problem is that with the extra track the steering can feel a bit odd for some people (I noticed it, my wife didn't have the foggiest).  I think it might be a toe out on turns issue and can probably be cured with some alignment tweaks but i didn't bother and moved to another set of wheels when the tyres wore out.

this is how it will look with 225/45r17

If you stick with the 225/50r17 be aware that they are about 23mm bigger in diameter if both sizes are new.  I'm currently running 225/50r17 on 17x7.5 ET45 (they sit inwards 17mm more than yours).  I'm on Eibach springs (not in that photo).

Good things:

Speedometer is deadly accurate 100kph actual = 100kph indicated

Good ride and wheel arches filled nicely due to larger diameter

Slightly less RPM at a given speed.

Odometer reads under.  I travel more than 15,000km to achieve 15,000km.  This makes up for the first 120,000km I did where it only took 14250km to reach 15,000km.

Bad things:

Your fuel economy will appear to be worse due to the change in rolling diameter.  It won't be worse, but it will stress you anyway.

Where I live it's illegal to have a tyre more than 13mm larger than stock

If i hit a bump mid-corner I get minor tyre rub at the front.  If I was on stock height springs it wouldn't happen.  With your extra poke I'm not sure if it will rub or not.

Tyre sizes:

If 205 then it will have to be a 205/50r17.  Down here they are uncommon, expensive & not much to choose from.

If you want a slightly more comfortable ride then try a 235/45r17.  They fit really well on an Octavia.  Keep in mind that sidewall design / construction has as much to do with comfort as sidewall height.  Ask your tyre shop which are the more comfort orientated tyres.
