Good (NOT) Vibrations

Featured Replies

Hi,

I am wondering if my Octavia Scout (2008, 2.0l TDI) is suffering from the dreaded DMF on its way out (or something else ?)

A few years ago it started a very small vibration at around 2200 revs (only in 6th) more of a slight "buzz" than anything.

Now it is very noticeable (when accelerating in 6th - though you can "drive through" it to higher speeds). The "buzz" is so bad as to restrict driving at those revs and not wanting to "go through" them. It is now also noticeable in lower gears. Very slowly getting worse (only done 63000 miles).

Oddly though, the noise seems to come from the rear of the car and I can only describe it like the sound of an out of balance prop-shaft (had a couple on cars years ago so I know what it feels like). This was OK, hit a resonant frequency (BUZZ) and then disappear as speed increased.

Cheers,

Lloyd

If you can get under it have a look at the rear prop shaft coupling. The metal collar on mine has parted company from the rubber mount causing some unexpected results (More noises on mine but could result in vibrations).

DMF should do nothing with the rear end of the car...

Does it vibrate in neutral as well as in a gear? If not then you might think about that DMF...
