key coding

Featured Replies

Is there a way to code new keys for the 1.4 8valve? My wife has just lost our only key and before I go to the expense of buying a new lock set I'd like to know if I can do it at home. Or is it a dealer job and how much would they charge?

Thanks

Malc

The key can be cut by your local locksmith/key cutter but you'll need the transponder chip for the new key coded to the car so it can start the engine. This is something an auto locksmith or dealer can do.

Snag is that without the key we can't get another cut. From memory (we asked about a replacement key a year ago) Skoda want something like £170 for a new key. Given the other problems with the car I can see a visit to the scrapyard looming.

an auto locksmith can decode a door lock & make a key to it :)

Take a look at my sig below ;)
