Hi

Anyone have any experience of one of these .... or advice

seems on paper to be a good buy????

As it happens, I have just bought one of these off e-bay. Did my research first of course and appeared to be a good a good buy, cost wise much cheaper than the other models available and so far I have been very impressed with the performance. My only gripe with it is that I have had a few problems when downloading updates from the website, the unit can take several attempts before it conects (I understand that this is a "glitch" in the system and Talex are working to put this right). My rating so far would be 9/10  . You might want to check out these websites for further info.

I've been using a Talex for some time and it's excellent. The database seems to be spot on, and because it uses road specific activation, you don't get the false alarms that come with most others on the market. They've just launched a new one with all the necessary functions for

Well I have been using mine for 2 weeks now ..... its certainly

working well ..... its notified me of all the mobile sites on my

regular routes .... so acuracy is excellent ..... I prefer to use

the digital speed readout from the talex now instead of the car

speedo ...... BTW the height above sea level mode is metres

and not feet as stated in the handbook...... another tip

when deciding where to stick the magnetic mount ..... I found

it best to put the magnet just above the centre air vents over the

right one so that the readout is facing slightly down ...... which makes it

easier to read in strong sunlight..... also be aware that the cig lighter stays

live even when the key is out of the ignition and car is locked

Seems too good to be true.

Anyone any bad views or is it all good ???

..... also be aware that the cig lighter stays live even when the key is out of the ignition and car is locked

I was concerned about this too and sent an E-mail to Talex, this was the response I got:-

"In reply to your email about hardwiring your Talex unit into your car, yes this can be done. The Talex unit will run on 12-24volt systems, i.e. a Car or Lorry. The device automatically switches voltage inside the unit, the power lead supplied with the unit is a completely standard lead, all that is the standard in car lead has is a fuse built into the cigar lighter plug. You can literally just cut the plug off the lead and wire this up to the electrical system on your car, other customers have done this by taking power from the 12 volt supply to the back of the car stereo or from the back of the cigar lighter in the car and neatly hiding the cable away. Some customers have also taken vehicles to garages and mechanics to have the power lead hard wired into cars. It is recommended that the fuse be included in the circuit though to prevent possible damage to the unit if a short circuit develops.

You can also leave the unit powered on permanently, the Talex uses very little power, (about the same power as the clock in your car. You could safely leave the Talex unit powered up for many weeks, or months with out risk of it flattening a car battery. If you were worried about a flat battery, you can just remove the power lead from the side of the Talex unit itself or you could install a separate switch to turn on and off the power."

Hope this helps.
