replacing brake fluid what do dealers use for bleeding

Featured Replies

I have just had mt brake fluid changed and the pedal travels along way and the brakes feel rubbish. Its a 2010 VRS and the brakes used to bit brilliantly right at the top.

Is it possible the brake fluid change has been done badly and there is air in the brakes?

They also replaced the rear discs and I know these will need time to bed in but this should not make spongy brake pedal that travels alongway before it brakes.

The pads were not replaced would that affect it. Any help to a car numpty appreciated.

Thanks

It does sound like there may be air in the system, when i changed my brake fluid i used a ezibleed as ive read on here not to use the "pump the pedal" method the ezibleed is a pressure bleeding tool, the dealer would have something the same only bigger & better id imagine, what was their reason for not changing the pads when fitting new brake discs?

What ever they have done you're not happy with it so take it back. As far as I was aware you should always change the pads when fitting new discs.

The dealer should use a vacuum system to such the fluid through.

I live in Belgium so customer service is not like UK. They will just charge me. Might take it to another Skoda dealer to do brake fluid change. The pads are only about a year old.

There is also a procedure to flush the ABS pump of old fluid using VCDS or similar. I have not done it but others may have more information. Probably a safe bet that the dealers don't do it or even know how to.

Pads should be changed with new discs.

Dealers should use a suction bleeder to suck the fluid through.

Pressure bleeders can also be used.

Using the brake pedal should be avoided.

Spongy pedal sounds like air. I would take it back and get them to sort them out.

There is a specific VAG machine to do it. I can't them specifying something different anywhere else in Europe.

If they use something else they aren't following vag's instructions.

Thanks

Mine felt the same when I got rear pads changed so I would give a feel more days for the pads to bed in with the new discs, also seems odd why they did not change the pads too

that's a really bad practice.  The old pads now have to wear into the shape of the new disc.  This can cause a spongy pedal for quite a while.

If the garage does things like that then they probably didn't use a pressure bleeder either.

Surely the service providers have some pride in their work & offer some type of warranty?  Don't be a jelly-back.  Go and ask them to get it right.

I will ask them to sort it but as you say I am concerned that they are crap so better off going somewhere else. I might replace pads myself see if that sorts it but it feels more like air.

Anyone know part number for rear pads for 2010 vrs they have 272 discs

Going to replace pads and hope that cures it.
