Roof Bars Estate. Don’t get caught out

Featured Replies

A word of warning for anyone hoping to use the Skoda roof bars from a Mk 2 on a Mk 3 Fabia

When I took delivery of my new Mk3 I was told the old roof bars would probably fit

Unfortunately that is not the case as the profile of the roof rails is slightly different.

I did ask the price of a new set that would fit the MK3 and was told that Skoda had not yet made them available.

At this time it is not known when they will be produced.

It may be that third party bars will fit

I did try modifying the Mk 2 bars but could not find a way that would ensure they would be secure when fitted

¿Que?

The OEM roof bars were fitted at delivery of my mk3 two weeks ago...

Pfaff: I think you mean roof rails, the ones that runs alongside the car whereas johnld is talking about the rack that gets connected to the roof rails

Nope. I do mean roof bars.

The rails are really stuck to the roof, the bars are stuck in the basement this very moment. ;)

Btw, the bars were ordered with the car back in January. No objections from my dealer as it was a written option , so I guess someone has a dealer not knowing or caring.

My dealer says he checked this with Skoda UK and that was the information which was given to them.

They have said they will let me know when the rails are available.

Might be a case that Skoda UK not being on the ball rather than my dealer who I have always found very helpful.

So it may be.

Wonder why?

As the basement isnt available at this very moment, as they are in the job basement, I cant check. The bars very much looks like and could be of Thule brand heritage. If you need bars Id suggest checking the Thule homepage for equals.

My local dealer had a set of roof bars in stock when I went in well over a month ago and as none of my other bars fitted the Fabia 111 estate, I grabbed them.  They are made of aluminium, with a brushed finish and are of a 'trapezoidal' cross section.  They are very easy to fit and clamp to the rails by an over-centre catch arrangement and are anti theft protected by key-locked covers for the catches.  I had to make some of the slide-in 'T' bolts to attach accessories as you don't get any with the bars and I have a roof box that fits by means of an old fashioned 'U' bolt fitment that doesn't work with these types of bars. They are not cheap bars but are very nicely made and fit perfectly.  If there had been Thule bars available at the time I may well have gone for those as they may well have been cheaper but they were not quoting for the Fabia 11 estate at that time.

Gave up on waiting for Skoda regarding roof bars for the MK III Fabia Estate

So popped into my local Halfords

The Halfords Roof Bar System E fit perfectly and only £85

They are fairly basic bars but will do the job for me

Roofbars.co.uk ?

I'll be using my Lidl bars. Just looked at a Combi in the showroom this morning - and the overall shape and cross-section size is not that much different to the old style VAG roof-rails.

The Lidl bars that I've been using for years on the Passat will definitely fit.  (for anyone who already has Universal bars)
