Octavia standard jack

Featured Replies

I know that most owners consider the standard single-leg jack supplied by Skoda for the Octavia MkII FL to be unstable and possibly dangerous but has anyone had their car actually fall off the jack?  Is the same jack and jack locating method used on the MkIII?

With cars where the jack located and lifted the car on the sill seam  I have carried a scissors jack with a slightly larger base spot welded on.  Perhaps I can modify that jack for use with my Octavia by welding the top section of a standard jack to the top of the scissors jack?  At home I have a trolley jack that that I use with a modified hockey puck; it is the jack carried in the car that I am considering replacing.

SORRY for the double post.

I have used the standard jack without issue, if you are sensible it would get you out of trouble but as with any car the supplied jack is just aimed at emergency situations. I saw my mother in laws neighbour underneath his mondeo with a pair of single leg jacks and no wheels on the jacked side. I actually shuddered at his stupidity!

Don't worry. It's OK. It's just a part of the natural evolutionary process, designed to remove the less intelligent from the human 'breeding pool'.

They look very similar, but my brother was changing a disc or something on one of those on is MkI golf and it fell forward and the disc sliced into his leg quite badly. On my MkII golf in my garage I had one twist and fall forward as well when I had a wheel off, I was only slightly moving something on the car at the time. I was standing by the open door and saw it going slowly and was able to arrest the fall so when it eventually rested on the front brake disc it hadn't smashed down on it. I think I used a second one to get it back up enough to get a pair on so I could put the wheel back on.

Think I was a bit restricted on the wall side of the double garage for space so thought 'that'll do for a quick half hour' but ended up needing the trolley jack anyway to get it back up. Didn't have the space to attache the handle so had to pump it up slowly with the stump bit. :)

Personally, I simply don't trust them after having seen the damage they can possibly do, and as said, emergency only.

Yes, that happened to me. The base of the jack slowly slid under the car. Fortunately I had a axle stand already under the car so the car has just sat down on the stand.
