Spent a weekend with

Featured Replies

Went down South to visit the parents and spent the weekend with a Focus 1.5 TDCI as a hire car for the weekend.

What a suprising engine, It's got more oomph than a 1.6 Octy. Does motorway speeds with ease and managed over 57mpg.  The handling is epic too.

Now I want to know why VAG only manages to get 37lb/ft more from an engine with 500cc more capacity.  My 2.0 is quicker (on paper by alot) but in the real world the Focus would be very close.

I can see your point. I happened to drive the previous 1.6 TDCI and experienced the same enthusiasm for both the surprising engine and the great handling.

I'm hoping the 150BHP Octavia I've on order won't be too much less a oomph than the very good 163BHP S-Max I have now

Due to the weight difference the 150 Octy should noticeably outperform the S-Max

Ford build decent engines, cars that handle fairly well, at a good size and level of practicality, and cheaply.   They just aren't that well bolted together .... Although not badly, and are very common. ... Because the do the other stuff.

There is nothing new in that, it's what the blue oval has always done.

If anything the Octavia should feel quicker as Sheldon Cooper said because of the weight difference.

I'm sure you will see a fuel economy increase as my experience will previous Fords was terrible compared with the Octavia.

One thing you might notice is the build quality after 12 months is not as good with a Skoda.

My previous Mondeos & even my mums' 8-year old Focus rattle less than my new Octavia after 12-month.

Already felt that, the Octavia is more noisy than the S-Max and that was the dealers Octavia test car

Both the 1.6 TDCI and the 2.0 TDCI 163BHP are Peugeot designed diesel engines. :notme:
