Remap, eml light problem

Featured Replies

Hi everyone this is my 1st post and was after a little advice.

I've got a 2003 mk1 octavia vrs, I had a stage 1 remap put on it around a year ago,

A few months after it blew a coil pack, engine light came on, I replaced the coil pack, disconnected the battery for a while, engine light went out, no problems for around 6 months.

I understand coil packs are a problem after a remap, again the light came on so I had the rest of the coil packs replaced foc at a skoda dealer when I took it in for a service.

They were unable to turn the light off and said all the problems relate to circuit 27

Loss of pressure under boost

Possible water temp problem

Knock sensor/ pinking

I took the battery off again, this cleared the light but whilst on a test drive doing all sorts of speeds, engine revs, engine loads etc, the power I had before turning the light out seems to have gone, more like standard power and pull.

Could this be that the ecu has to learn the setting again or is there something I'm missing

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks Paul

Same post elsewhere on this site,I posted it in the wrong section originally, whoops

When they say they couldn't turn light off did they mean they can't clear the code?

To be honest the words possible water temp problem suggest to me it's the coolant temp sensor which can cause all sorts of running issues when failing/failed. I'd be tempted to start with that and see what else it solves.

Did you have a 17705 code pop up as well? You may have gone into limp mode which could be pipe related, a software issue with the remap or something else. This could also be rectified if you get it running correctly fitting a new temp sensor. I think that's where I'd start, could be a few things to work through but I'd try that first.

Oh, hi and welcome by the way

P.s I think your coil pack issues were one of those things and not part of the larger issue. Take it you had the revised ones fitted under recall at service? Should be fine now, they can cope with stage 1 no problem.

Hey yellow car, thanks for the reply, sorry about the time I took to get back to you I've been mega busy, skoda never gave me a specific code they said the things that was being highlighted were related to circuit 27 ( not a clue)and further investigation was needed, I decided to take battery off again to clear the light and refitted an hour later, no light to date and I've tried recreating the conditions in which it came on originally, so touch wood a good service, the coil packs( which were under the recall) and being choosy about which fuel I put in has hopefully sorted it, I'll update if anything changes but the car is running like a dream now, no hesitation, smooth acceleration etc.

Thanks again for the reply

Coil packs are a fairly common issue, especially the outdated ones. They normally don't throw codes and put EML on until they're going badly, but hopefully looks like it's got sorted and that was the issue. Keep your eye on it and keep us posted. The 'possible water temp' problem or whatever they said without giving you any real info (strange) could be a sign that the temp sensor is faltering so if you get any rough running in future, get it scanned again by someone who is willing to give you information (not them) and bear the cts in mind.
