Tinting MK3 Windows

Featured Replies

Just picked up my brand new FABIA SEL and although I really really like it, I found it a bit bright inside.

Would therefore be looking at tinting the back windows. Any advice?

I didn't pick the option when buying the car, didn't think we would need it but after our Monte, we got used to it so want to get it done on the new car.

How much is a good price? And what sort of 'shade' should the tint be?

See pictures of my car...

In Finland I payed 200 Euros (I think) in connection to ordering the car, ie the seller arranged for the tinting before I picked up the car. So expect less than that.

The shade really depends on how dark you would like it to be in the car. I have the rear window tinted to max (90% blocking I think) with the added benefit that headligts from the car behing never blinds me. The rear side windows are one shade lighter (85%?). Visibility from inside the car out is still good, but you cannot see inside the car. The Skoda "Sunset" glass is not really that dark at all - in this image you can see the difference (Yes, this is a Yeti, but the same sunset glass and same level of tint nonetheless)

The window in the front door has no tinting at all, the window in the rear door is stock sunset glass, and the window in the back has tinting film with the 2nd darkest tint applied to it in addition to sunset (the door was missed and fixed later, I did not want the car to look like this).

The windscreen and front side windows are totally untouched - it is not road legal in Finland either. Rear side windows are OK to tint

I asked my local dealer whether I could have the back windows tinted with them but they said no.

So got some quotes for around £190. It seems a bit much?

I requested the sunset glass at point of purchase but after picking up the car i found an invoice for the window tinting in the glove box for £150 using a local company. Its a lot darker than sunset glass but I like it now as it is.
