Something dripping from pipe under timing belt? What's there?

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just noticed some dips on the road and dont remember them being there earlier (no one uses the road)

They are just where I accelerated. There aren't any marks where I park at work or at home.

Just looked underneath the front right wheel and the is a pipe that you can see from underneat. This has black fluid on. The pipe is almost directly underneath the timing belt.

What's in this area of the car. Just wondering how expensive it's going to be. My thoughts are turbo but hoping not.

Many thanks.

boost pipe under there could be leaking boost and abit of oil in pipes maybe dripping have it lost power at all?

Not sure about the power loss. Nothing sudden but if it has then its been gradual. Used to the power now so don't feel it as much.

Would this affect mpg slighlty? Sure its using a tiny bit more than normal.

Going round my brothers in a bit as he's offered to take a quick look. Knows a bit more than me.

It does have the hissing sound when you accelerate but have been told all vrs's do it.

hissing noise and using more fuel says to me it a boost pipe leaking

I'm thinking "boost pipe" too. With luck it's a loosened joint rather than a worn through pipe. Either way, it's a good reason to drain condensed lubricant out of the intercooler.

Oh yeah, and if I get a loose or popped joint I replace the stock hose clips with proper Terry Jubilee Clips (accept absolutely no substitutes).

The clips frequently wear on the connectors, so you may end up just repeatedly popping it out.

If you've done a fair few miles and have never done it before, it's a good idea to drain the oil from your inlet system. As there will be a cumulation of oil from the crankcase vent system. Sure fire way to get rid of this full stop is to fit a catch can or run a pipe from the inlet down to the floor (otherwise known as the 'elephant mod').

Make completely sure it's not coolant dripping from the water pump too. It shouldn't be from what you've described, but definitely worth a check whilst you're looking around that area.

Update. Cleaned it all up and took it for a test drive.

It was leading under the intercooler where the 90'rubber goes into the cooler.

Is this the one you mean Alex?

Disconnected that and oil came out, about enough to fool a pop bottle lid, maybe a tad more.

Did a quick google and apparently this is normal.

Went to replace the oring but the parts team gave us the wrong one so fitting the new one on sat.

Everything else around and above the pipe is clean so defiantly leaking through the seal.

Will have a look at the mod when I get back to check it out thanks.

Replaced the droplink on the passenger side though and now it nice and quiet. Got one thing sorted.
