Can we talk bushes?

Featured Replies

I fitted 2x Seat bushes on my VrS about 5 years ago , as the standard  bushes really had worn out.

this gave  odd handling on long express way corners at about 60 mph , a similar condition to out of balance wheels ( which it wasnt ) standard rear  bushes quite flexible

front bushes left as standard

so on a 11 year old car , I have not had to change the front bushes ,and by fitting SEAT bushes which I find it a bit harsh but ok ( passed MOT last month no suspension wear ) so that is 40000 miles  on these bushes ( though Im not a manic driver )

If i was to change again  , I would be tempted to go for the Meyle , as they look better than the  standards (yes  I know the Skoda bushes are now also updated ) and with the condition of the roads , better  for my back !!

tracked the wheels , but didnt need to alter -- you always need to check when ever you do the suspension  ,as its cheaper than new tyres !!!

also I set the tracking as toe in 0 degrees / 10 minutes and this doesnt seem to wear the tyres even with the stiffer bushes

regards

I've been here and it seems that I should take a look at my chassis number before buying stuff. Where can I find it ?

On the sticker in the boot or service manual. And in the windscreen.

Hey, TMB ! Yes, you are correct, that is the VIN, but the website was saying about the chassis number, which I'm not sure where to find.  My VIN is TMBNB46Y0Y3035992 and doesn't really fit anywhere there. Which ones should I order? I'd fancy to replace front and rear bushes.

  • These bushes fit model with chassis number
    • Upto F5J 8A502 656
    • Upto F5J 8B503 031
    • Upto F5J 8K450 960
    • Upto F5J 83172 973
    • For models with later chassis numbers use bushes Fabia 5J

Your chassis number is the right-hand part of your VIN, the part starting 6Y, with the next digit omitted. Yours is 6Y Y3035992, or 6Y-Y3035992.

Mk2 chassis numbers start with 5J instead, and by definition, are later than all mk1s, so I think what that link is saying is that all mk1s, and mk2s up to those chassis numbers quoted use the 2000-2007 type bushes. Mk2s with later chassis numbers than those quoted have a different set, presumably because of some design change.
