Columbus Reversing camera

Featured Replies

Is it possible to make up a loom cheaply for Reversing camera input or must I buy a special adapter box. Whilst I like the Columbus getting anything for it seems to be either impossible or expensive.

I'm sure Eddie-NL on here could make a loom up for you.

AFAIK you'll still need a controller to convert the signal from the camera to the Columbus.

Kufatec do the controller. (Can't remember how much for though)

Several different cameras around. IIRC Mike Holroyd has a boot-handle one, I've got a number-plate one. Make sure you get a CCD one as the picture is much better quality. You'll also need a tweak with VCDS too.

To be honest I can live without it looking at the prices to get it installed. Only just bought Bluetooth and that Stung enough. I also wanted headrest screens but that again seems to be expensive.

The biggest ballaches are running the cables up the tailgate, and also from back to front.

I've not seen anyone (before s28) sucessfuly install a lowline kit. Also the only kits I saw were for a fairly awful looking camera.

Nikonite, to be fair I think the RSE kits are not cheap regardless of car.

Also, those lowline kits don't seem much cheaper than getting a controller and camera.

What would the expensive box add to the camera?

I know the box integrates into CANBus and is seen on the Gateway. I don't know what advantage that has, other than the possibility of reading the steering-wheel sensor and moving lines on the display. I know that if you had an VW-OEM install, there would be a box.

I don't know if the higher quality CCD cameras need the box either. I do know that you're better off spending the (little bit) extra and getting CCD as the picture quality is so very much better.
