I changed the manifold + injector seals on my 2010 vRS as well and posted a few before and after photos:

After decoking, I have really noticed an improvement in mpg and it's smoother accelerating.

After I'd renewed it I cleaned the old one in a degreasing bath but couldn't find anything wrong with it except for the gunk and the positioner switch itself.  I've since bought a new switch from fleabay as a future spare.  It can be changed in situ with just two screws:

At £15 to change it's worth a try before doing the more expensive job.
