Another PD Oil for the list

Featured Replies

Trying to find a top up bottle today for the Fabia vRS. Shell Helix for the PD engine not stocked at Shell garages anywhere around here. BP Super Visco V not available at any BP garages (although the Visco 2000 states on the bottle "can be used were VW505.01 is specified", decidedly suspect that). The garage that used to be Q8 now Total.

So into Halfrauds where they had Castrol Edge 5W/40 Turbodiesel. Fully synthetic and specced to VW505.01.

Oil useage to date 0.25L in 2000 miles.

Chris

I've been trying to find the Shell Helix stuff too!! Why recommend summat that you can't frickin buy?????

Hi Steve

No, this is not 505.01 rated. The handbook wallet has a "Skoda Auto recommned Shell Helix" lable inside, this is why I was looking at shell. Checking out the shell website, it would appear that the range of oils I saw is the full range and none of them are specified as 505.01.

The nearest and easiest course of action for me was the local Audi dealer (can get there in 2 minutes), but I phoned to check they had VAG specced 505.01 oil and the guy there (complete with condecending attitude) said "we dont do VW specced oils", rest of conversation was overshadowed by the voice in my head saying "ingorant and arrogant", so blew it out and tried Halfrauds again. They did not have the Edge Turbo Diesel 505.01 grade in when I went in before, but had it today.

At first service, I was going to go over to fully synthetic. Anyone know if the standard Skoda stuff is fully synthetic? If not, can I spec / supply my own oil for servicing without voiding the warranty? Reason being that I want to run this car to very high mileage, so best oil suggestions welcome.

Chris

PS Mobil 1 to 505.01 would be ideal. I have run Mobil 1 in everything I owned since before it became available to the general public and have never worn an engine out. Broke a few bits due to metal fatigue though.

never had to top mine up, and just let the dealer do it at service (10,000) he actually asked what I'd topped it up with, and I said "nothing.." and just checked again before big drive round Scotland from thurs to mon,and still doesn't need any :) this is the way I like it, modern cars, don't need to touch until dealer service  [bit confused though, why so many vRS owners here have to top up and I dont!?]

I am just over the 2k mark now and have not used a drip of oil. In saying that i did not stick to standard guidelines when running in :)

Hi

I have found diesels to use a bit of oil in the first service interval. You get variation from one car to the next, even of the same model. My Fiesta used a whole litre on its first 12,500 mile interval (and that left it near the bottom of the dipper just before service), then just half a litre on the next 12,500 and on the third and fourth intervals, almost none at all.

The vRS has used 0.25l in it's first 2000 miles. I will keep a regular check on it, but this does not seem excessive and I assume it will settle down. My Omega, now 110,000 miles, has not used any oil at all over it's last 10,000 miles. It is still at the top mark on the dipstick, just where it started 10,000 miles ago.

Chris

Mine seems to vary. it's done 6,400 miles, i check the oil every week, often it uses nothing, other times i have to put quite a bit it in,bizarre!

7,800 miles on my vRS and no oil usage as of yet. I used my own running in procedure which would not have been approved in the handbook :-)

Engine seems to have loosened up now quite nicely to.
