I've just done the mentioned mod and I had the same level of play shown in the video in silky's link. I've fitted the part and replaced the cover and there is no play at all now.

From experience I would recommend a Sachs Kit over the Luk. OEM on the PD130, PD150 and PD160 is Sachs. LuK was fitted to the PD115. It's insane the prices some companies charge for a pretty strai

  • Thanks again for the input from a supplier point of view. Do you happen to know if the LUK and Sachs parts are rated the same? I must also apologise for not considering you to do this as you are clo

Yes thanks again for this, it has seemingly solved no end of knocks and creaks (if that is even possible). Car ticks over quieter and drives smoother as well in terms of gear changes. It was such a quick and easy thing to do as well. If I can get another 100k trouble free in terms of gearbox and clutch/flywheel I'll be ecstatic.

Anyone know of any good places to have clutch/fly done down south? Mine has just begun slipping today, would be good to have somewhere prepared. Unit18 sounds my cup of tea, however is 4 hours away from me.

edit:

Tell a lie, Google lied to me. Unit18 is about an hour and twenty from me/

That's pretty much exactly the same for me mate. I got the train in to Northampton, went for a coffee browsed some shops, watched the new jurassic park film and went back and picked the car up. Unit 18 is about a 10-15 minute walk from Wolverton train station. 10 minutes from wolverton to Northampton on the train, about 2 minutes to Milton Keynes.

I've been quoted about seven hundred quid from unit 18! Clutch up to 200bhp however I've only got a remap.

Bit disappointed.

What clutch are you getting for that price though? Flywheel as well I presume? DMF or single?

Was for LUK clutch and flywheel. No other details given!
Cant believe they are that much! I'd never imagined spending hundreds and hundreds on a car like that! I suppose every time I've started to think I was going to have a problem with a car, I've sold it!

this is the problem you are mentioning almost all 02m gearboxes suffer with higher mileage

quick and easy fix using genuine parts solves the issue

thankfully the Fabia gearbox can fixed in situ, if you have an early golf/A3 02m gearbox is a removal and machine job

Quick question - can this be done on all Fabia VRS gearboxes as shown or only on ones after a certain date. I've got a 53 reg VRS so wondering if this can be done on mine?

Thanks.

Personally, I wouldn't know mate. Might be worth giving darkside a ring.

I just got quoted £744 for LUK Clutch, Slave and Flywheel.

Does that seem about right?

Also any advice on whether to go LUK or Sachs?

Seems opinions are pretty mixed.
