1.4tsi VED rates

Featured Replies

Just returned to the Octavia fold after a few years away. (Mk1 VRS now 1.4tsi Estate - That's getting older and having a family!)

Was expecting to have to pay £110 for tax but just checked and it's only £30 as 119g rather than the 121 that I was expecting. Can't fing anything on the net apart from new 150bhp versions with 119g (mines supposed to be 140bhp)

Car was registered July 2014

Absolutely blown away by the car. Engine is astonishing! Makes my outgoing Cmax 1.6 Turbo feel like a heavy, clunky old car.

Cheers

Simon

Moved from Fabia III to Octavia III forum.  :P

I was shocked to find my new MK3 VRS is also £30 VED, old Fabia SE VRS was £130. Will the NoX scare campaign change that? I don't know, so take the money and run.

IIRC the DSG 1.4 TSI 140 just creeps into the £30 band, whereas the manual is just the other side of the limit at £110.  I've a March 2014-registered manual, and it's definitely £110.

The Octavia 1.4 DSG is just below the VED band break, the manual is just above it - see Wiki for  full details of rates. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_Excise_Duty#Rates_since_April_2005

Possibly the only car in the world where the auto is less costly than the manual!

I think the new 150 PS engine is almost the same as the previous 140 PS. The CO2 emissions might be very slightly different but the two gearboxes still fall either side of the VED band break, in favour of the DSG.

The latest brochure (May 15) is downloadable and has full specs.

The new engine is slightly better. All variants are now in the lower band except for manual estates with 17 or 18" wheels.

Good spot, Rodge, I stand corrected!

And to clarify further, ALL engines and transmissions in all trim levels up to and including SE-L spec, hatch or estate, with wheels as standard, are VED band C or below, EXCEPT the manual 1.4 SE-L estate, which is band D. Just one car out of 26. (Scout, L&K and vRS buyers, look your own figures up!)

Thanks for moving me!

Well, I've just checked and my car is a manual, registered in July 2014 and has CO2 of 119g and £30 VED. I even entered it's reg on the DVLA site and it told me £30 tax. Engine Number starts with CHPA

I guess it's either slipped through the net or has a very early 150bhp engine??? Is there any way I could find out by looking at it or via the engine no'?

Happy but intrigued :D

Cheers

Sounds a bit odd.  AFAIK no 150bhp cars have been delivered yet - let alone back in the middle of last year.  My March 14 car is showing up as follows:

Vehicle make SKODA
Date of first registration 14 March 2014
Year of manufacture 2014
Cylinder capacity (cc) 1395cc
CO₂Emissions 121 g/km
Fuel type PETROL
Vehicle status Tax not due
Vehicle colour RED
Vehicle type approval M1
Wheelplan 2 AXLE RIGID BODY
Revenue weight 1847kg

Exactly the same but 119g! Weird

I'd say there has been an error made by the DVLA , I'd put the difference in a savings account or an offset morgage, I dunno about VED but, other tax matters the IRS can go back 7 years with interest.

Exactly the same for me - Dec 14 registered 1.4tsi estate coming up as 119g on that link.  I must admit I thought it was more?
