Featured Replies

hello all i havent bought my camera yet but i have just borrowed a 300d for the night to take some pics at a gig of my brothers.

well i need some tips as i only have the standard lense and no external flash :)

many thanks mike

Hi,

If you are snapping a gig, you will probably want to put the ISO setting quite high - his way it reduces the amount of light required to expose the shot correctly and thus can still keep images bright enough using a fastet shutter speed required to keep the shots blur free. I haven't got experience of a digi SLR but on a 35mm I'd be looking for ISO800 or more I'd guess. This is the only way you'll be able to capture the 'atmosphere' of the show as if you fitted a big flash you'd end up with bright images, but with colours (lights etc) burnt out.

If it is your brother's gig, if you can get access to backstage etc, some interesting shots are those taken behing the band looking out at the crowd.

Interested to here how you get on with the 300d as it is one I've considered.

Cheers

Without a flash, f2.8 lens or a tripod in a dark environment with a moving target you are always going to struggle...

The top one is not bad given yur environment and restrictions.

yeah out of about 170 shots i get 2 lol ah well was fun playing around anyway

Not a bad ratio, out of 6k I'd offer maybe 3 or 4 for final print or submission somehwere.

Some are good according to others, but I'm a picky sod ;)

i may just have to get him to just play outside on really bright days :D

Or adjust the lighting so it's not behind him...*if* that light were pointing toards him from you then you would of got many more.
