advise on new job

Featured Replies

hi, start a new job Monday , quick question ref dpf and the drive to work

route 1 - 16 mile roughly 35 minutes off -  a19 single carriage way and drive across town

route 2- 24 mile 33 minutes roughly - off motorway and possibly 4 mile off a fast a road

concerned about dpf on both off these routes to be honest not so much the 2nd , its a Monday to Friday job as opposed to shift work ive done since I first bought the car.

I drive 2 miles to work and 2 miles back, I have a MKIII TDi Vrs, no problems with the DPF. I do try to keep the car in 3rd though, I like to keep the revs up and I use Quality fuel, not supermarket C**p

I do go for a blast when I'm off though..........

I wouldn't worry about either route, both give the engine more than enough time to warm up and being a CR based TDi I can't see the DPF being a problem.

Mine certainly doesn't seem to mind a 20 mile 40 minute journey along A road's and then stop/go city traffic - only about 3 miles of the total but normally half the journey time!

thanks for the reply's, was thinking about varying the route going in one way and going home the other just to break it up a bit

Assuming you've got a CR engine (can't see your details as I'm using the mobile site) you won't have dpf issues with either route. I often do just 5 mile journeys and go for weeks on end without a decent run and I very rarely even notice an active regen even though it does one at least every 600 miles at the most. Much is made about DPF problems but the truth is the C R engine was designed to work with one and does so very well.

My PD has just regen'd again. Thats one a week while I've owned it. I don't live far from work so the journey to is short but twice this week I've went the long way home and it's still regen'd. Maybe they do it regardless how you drive.
