Sat Nav +

Featured Replies

Anybody have any thoughts on the merits of the two Sat Nav systems available in the Octavia.  The Amundsen touch screen system and the Columbus system, I am allowed to have any optional extra in the brochure for the Octavia Estate 2.0 4x4.  Chosen so far is the winter pack and a rear camera.  Park Assist and Adaptive Cruise control is a free option this month as is a pre paid £500 fuel card from the dealership.  Anything else I should think about?  Apart from a proper spare wheel.

Columbus beats Amundsen hands down.  Maybe not worth the extra premium it commands but if money is not in your way then that's the best choice.

New larger screen Amundsen is much better than original offering though and is now better value for the money.

In some cases bigger is better. This is one those cases, if money is no concern.

I ticked a good 75% of the boxes on the option list and haven't regretted any of my choices. The Columbus, ACC, rear view camera and Automatic Parking Assist 2.0 have been especially nice to have and get used daily.

And on the boot side (on an estate) the VBF and dividing net have been great for transporting all sorts of items.

I have Amundsen on my car, is OK but other than being nicely integrated its nothing to write home about. Works well enough but its dynamic routing and traffic capabilities arent fantasic and expect a latest gen TomTom or Garmin would be a better navigator.

It was standard on my car but absolutely knowing what I know now I wouldnt have paid for it....given that I absolutely wouldnt have paid for Columbus however nice it might look.

I actually think a MIB2 Bolero which is Smartlink capable regardless of whether its specified at the factory or not (can be activated later by licence key) is the smart choice and in most markets it will be the standard HU anyway.

I've got the Columbus in the vrs and swmbo has Amundsen in the scout - I was worried that I should have upgraded the scout kit but to be honest in the week we've had the car I think the Amundsen is ok - it doesn't fill the space as nicely but for functions I've not really found anything id lose sleep over. I guess the difference is ill do around 35k miles in the vrs this year verses her 8k locally in the scout

Fortunately or unfortunately I picked up a stock car, which had Cruise Control included and I picked it up 3 months early (although could have got an extra 5bhp with a MY16), but I'm yet to use the CC and don't think I'd have really noticed the extra 5 ponies.

My fault for having a 2 mile commute to work I suspect.
