Steering wheel vibration

Featured Replies

Has anyone experienced steering wheel vibration in their SII? Mine is a 13MY L&K DSG 2.0tdi 170bhp which has some vibrations especially on speeds above 65mph. I never had any issues like this with my previous SII. It's not very severe but I can feel it which is quite unacceptable on a modern car of this size.

I've booked my car to be seen by the dealer. Anyone with similar issues?

Wheel vibration (usually at around motorway speeds) is a typical sign of balance issues with the wheels.  The faster you drive the more noticeable it will be.   It can even happen on a new car!  I'd get the wheel balancing checked at if I were you.  Any other issues with the steering pulling to either side etc??

Ta, Superb170....steering pull at times I noticed but the other issue I have is car being really wobbly (may not be the right term)....what I mean is....wobbly sideways. Unsure if that could be due to wheel balancing issues

I see from your info that you used to have a 4x4 Superb. These have stiffer anti-roll bars than the 2WD version based on other comments I've read here from people who've gone to 4x4 from the 2WD Superb, so this might be the wobble you're taking about if it doesn't feel like the last car while cornering. Wobble through the wheel at speed is usually wheel balancing as already said above.

Sounds like balancing to me - mine has started doing it recently but that's because I walloped a couple of big potholes on the motorway.

If you accelerate past the vibration does it stop?

Thanks guys....this is what I found

The horizontal/vertical runout which the article talks about is what I'm really interested in. I reckon that's the issue I have in my SII. Let's see if the dealer can diagnose the issue correctly.

The vibration tends to gradually increase from 65mph and I don't think it stops beyond that speed.

Are you running on Skoda alloys, or after market?

Skoda ones with L&K alloys

Would be balancing problem then, as above. One of the weights may have fallen off, or one of the alloys may be buckled or cracked (where you can't see it).

That's interesting. Thanks, JakeBlade. I'm taking it to the dealers next week and have warranty till next June....will this be covered under warranty though? Bought the car 6 weeks ago from Skoda dealers.

I don't think that any reasonable person would expect an alloy to fail within 6 weeks of ownership.
