I have being hunting down a MBQ based new car on PCP for a while through Carwow and am very very close to pulling the trigger on a Golf in Match Trim because its a very well equipped car and was within my monthly budget.

 

However I have just noticed the new SEL trim level (which I think was the Elegance before) which now seems to be a very well equipped car for the price and although it works out £15 more expensive PCM them the Golf it has a leather/seude interior, sat nav and a 1.4 engine that despite being more powerful than the Golf (150ps vs 125ps) is a VED band lower! Also as I am planning to use PCP as a route to ownership the Octys ballon is a grand less than the Golfs...

 

Am I missing anything obvious which means this isnt such a good a deal as I think?

The Golf will have a better ride as it has independent rear suspension but the Octavia only has torsion beam. On the plus side if you get the order in before 9th June you get a £500 fuel card from Skoda.

On the 125 PS Golf? Are you sure?

Afaik the 1.4 golf does get multilink. Its only the 1.2 petrol and 1.6 diesel on the 'S'that dont.

Not to cause any upset to anyone on here but personally unless load space is a priority id suggest the Golf is probably the better car.

Have you contemplated going for the 150 TDI at all, will cost less on a PCP than the TSI. GT spec also brings about a few improvements for probably not a great increase in monthly cost.

I agree, I had the same choice but boot space was a priority so went for the Octavia. Would have liked the Octavia Estate but could afford it.
