Anyone own a remapped VRS in Sussex

Featured Replies

As per the title, I'm picking up my Moon White TDi VRS on Friday and already thinking about adding extra power and a few other things. Does anyone locally have either a fully mapped or DTUK box fitted diesel around Sussex/Surrey area that would be willing to show me the difference before I invest?

Thanks

Wish I did, don't know of anyone either, they tend to be a conservative bunch round here.

You're not alone, I too would like to experience the change before I commit.

That's a shame, I'd really like to see if it's a massive difference over standard.

There are a few other things that I'm looking at adding, fairly boring additions if I'm honest like sound deadening and darker tints for my son( I cannot stand window blinds!)

You are looking at somewhere between 230 and 235ps and perhaps 350-370lb/ft torque with a map/tuning box. Probably turns a late 7's car into a late-mid 6's car with a stronger mid range.

It'll go more like a standard 2.0 TSI, probably not quite so quick off the mark but shorter doses of harder mid range wallop. Undoubtedly a good compromise over a standard TSI as will still be a fair margin more efficient than the TSI even with the tune.

Its a case of v much each to their own

..the extra power of course will cause additional stress/wear and tear to components such as the clutch/gearbox, brakes and engine itself and may cause a bit more loading on the DPF (as the reality is that its going to produce a bit more soot I expect with more power - not that you'd see it) but a number of people have DTUK boxes, they apparently work great and very few reports of any issues...those that have are typically installation/early life issues that Andrew (@ DTUk) has resolved. But these are all things we know and accept when mapping or tuning boxing a car.

Personally I think 184ps is good enough....GTD's with manual gearboxes have been known to clock 60 in a tad under 7 secs anyway but sure it wont be as quick as a mapped one, particularly mid range.

Hmmm. I've fitted 4 DTUK tuning boxes now on various O3's for friends and members on here but, not as yet a TDI vRS, I've not had anyone as yet say, its not worth the money, they all been really pleased with the performance.

I've also fitted 2 Pedalboxes and can highly recommend the affect they have too.  A engine remap will have very much the same effect, the tunignboxes just have the ability (if required) to be removed and not leave a currently detectable trace whereas, the remap will.

It must said though, that the TDI vRS does have/has had some issues in really cold weather with some of the higher Maps and fine tunes so, some adjustment is required in winter.

I though the turbo breathes better in winter?

It's cooled better that's true

Used to live in Bognor.... I concur with the manwithnoaim, but mainly because it snows here...lots...

Go to JKM in Pompey for a chat, just head for the incinerator...., you may be able to see about a 6 hour flash test drive.. Had those on my mk1 and mk2 before I bought my maps.. Just to clarify, that 6 hours on ignition on driving, not just 6 hours from install, drive round like a mad thing to get value for money...

The difference is massive. Had I not got a dtuk box for my mk3 vrs tractor after Id run it in, I may have considered selling it back, it hugely disappointed me as standard tbh....

So that's a thumbs up for the Dtuk box then, there are eBay ones for 1/3 the price what's the difference other than 3x the price?

3X the R and D

3X the product

3X the backup

3X the assurance

3X the care

Oh and they'll take it back if (very rare) you're not happy with for a £30 re-stocking fee ie. you get your payment back minus the £30

Do they do that on Fleabay

I've heard that the ECU has some form of counter on it so any maps hard or soft like a flash unit will still show up. Only try DTUK boxes don't? Is this true

Tuning boxes don't alter the software of the car therefore, when removed thier prior use will not be detected under the current checks made by service agents, checksum counters do show up on current checks made by service agents and engine remaps will be found, this in itself doesn't mean the remap will be removed only the car flagged on the VAG system as modified leading to some warranty claims being discounted.

PM me should you required to discuss more frankly.

Just following on from my earlier post....

If I owned a vRS TDI (or Golf GTD/Leon FR 184)...110% I would go and buy a DTUK CRD-T tomorrow. Nigh on all the benefits of a remap (loads more power and torque) with v few of the drawbacks (nigh on if not entirely undetectable IMHO). A TDI with TSI power levels and lots of torque with continued cheap running costs is quite an intoxicating mix.

A v good remap from the likes of shark may give overall better results and bespoke power/torque curves (rather than heavily massaging the standard curves as most tuning boxes do) but you'll pay probably twice the cost, its detectable and can be wiped by main dealers if they perform an update...sure the map can be reinstated but you'd have the inconvenience of having to remap the car again (not sure if Shark support their STS - equivalent of Blufin on the TDI 184 now?).

DTUK is regarded as one of the v best tuning box devices out there, Andrew is a thoroughly nice chap and will support you to the nth degree too and it is IMHO a safe bet both in terms of overall satisfaction and keeping the warranty on your car.....providing you take it off any time it visits a main dealer.

I may be getting a Golf GTD company car in due course; sadly as its a CC it'll be remaining standard. I would have gotten one for my Elegance but I dont think it handles or stops sufficently well to handle another 50ps without upgrades...also the missus is due to inherit it and its plenty quick enough for her stock so decided against it. VRS with better suspension and vastly superior brakes is a great candidate.

Once again great post and input, mine is a Cc but with DTUK not being able to be detected I thought that is my best bet. Plus fuel and tyres are not my remit but I'd be hoping to increase the MPG as i do a lot of motorway driving. I've waited 4-5months for this now so will run it in standard form to start with then look at DTUK I think.

No worries at all MDC. Do be very careful with putting this on a CC though...unless you are honest with your employer could be big implications in the event you had a bad prang as it could well invalidate your corporate insurance cover unless declared....I wouldnt want to risk losing my job over sticking a tuning box on my car personally...its definitely quite a risk.

Conversley, luckily, my prang was so big, the bonnet was folded around the engine, and the engine was a lot closer to my seat than it used to be... nobody was going to interrogate the system in that eventuality.... reverse Darwinism at work....

Looks like I'm staying standard. Chuffed to bits as it anyway

I drive to the Handcross area for work occasionally via M25/M23 and have a TDI vRS with the DTUK box fitted. If you're still thinking of having it done I can let you know when next down that way

I'm based just below that and go on the 23/25 daily. Let me know when you're next in the area to check it out. I still think ill be staying standard but would be good to see a dtuk box
