His vs Hers (vRS vs Scout) thread

Featured Replies

A question came up in the pictures thread as to comparison of swmbo'd Mk3 Scout (150 manual) and the Mk3 vRS TDI DSG estate i have. Rather than hijack the picture thread, will post this one for any questions anyone has on side by side comparisons - and i'll update more once i've had more time to play with the Scout.

The Scout is standard MY15 150bhp manual with amundsen and the vRS has a few more toys, Columbus / Canton - hence the infotainment system is one interesting comparison i'll be messing about / living with.

Probably the first thing i noted, is on the B roads following the missus, the Scout would be a challenge to get past - certainly need a long straight - the manual box is certainly better for these roads around here than my DSG. But i use the vRS for A road / motorways and the Scout was order for its B road / pothole / moorland living capabilities - so currently working out as planned.

Would love the comparison between the canton and the non-canton sound.

I have the canton, and think its ok, but not great. How are the stock speakers? Ive never heard them. The demo I borrowed also had canton.

I don't mind the standard speakers, but I'm no Fat Boy Slim. If I want feel like I'm at a bands gig.... 'll head to a gig :).

Nothing beats a good gig :)

Nice Octavii.

Nice Octavii.

Pedant alert: the plural (if Latin) of Octavia is Octaviae. Octavii is the plural of Octavius (masculine).

I'll have another listen over the weekend, i'd had a blown/rattling speaker in the vRS for a while so volume and bass was turned down until it was fixed early this week - i actually was pleasantly surprised by the quality of amundsen / standard set-up (i was expecting it to be poor, given the challenge i'd had to get good sound from the canton) but using medium or loud bluetooth settings on the volume settlings and streaming from the iPhone seems ok.

The columbus had a software upgrade to 0390 that improved the bass (but made the speaker rattle/blow), i haven't checked the amundsen's software yet but it was only built within the last 2 months so should relatively new, so may have also had a sound/bass improvement anyway.

Nav wise the amundsen seems as easy to use as the columbus also.

Did you notice much difference regarding dab reception after the update? My Columbus is currently 0370.

To be honest, i didn't notice a major fault with DAB but when i first got the car i was listening to radio stations broadcasting in DAB and FM and it switches between without delay. I believe it the DAB signal is a bit better, there was one place i did drop a DAB only station for a maybe a few hundred yards but if it drops out its more of a split second thing now - maybe they improved the ability for it to change aerials / channels (however it works!).

My wife has the same Race Blue Scout so a couple more pictures (of the boy jet washing it!).  It's not going to win many races but it's perfect for family days and trips away.  Rides and handles really well and I enjoy driving it :D
