Top passenger corner dash rattle - MK2

Featured Replies

Hi All

Woo, a Skoda forum! I've taken a lot of searches and I can see there are *heaps* of threads on this issue - so sorry if relatively repeated. Some things about mine seem to possibly be a bit unique, so hopefully you guys have some suggestions. And sorry for long post!

I've got an 08 2.0 TDI Octavia II and the dashboard passenger side is rattling/creaking/ticking (ticking is probably most relevant) basically all the time now.

I'm a bit OCD with this kind of stuff and have left it for about 2 months but I'm getting to the point where I can't stand driving without the radio on, and it really detracts from the car for me. It's quite loud and is continuous and worse on bad surfaces/in heat.

It's happening here, in the image shown. A friend and I spent an hour or so figuring out what it could be. When we press down on this area of the dash, it doesn't make the noise. We put a piece of cut up hose between the windscreen and the dash and it stops (until the hose falls out like 10 mins later after driving...not as permanent of solution as wanted :p)

Possibly saw a bit of yellow something between the dash and windscreen further down that looks like the seal and it has moved where the noise happens (possibly previous owner)...so maybe there is less seal there? (Not sure how it works). Tried tightening all the torx bits including behind the cover that joins the dash to the frame.

Anyway, if anyone has any suggestions inc if I should just spend money to get stuff checked (or if its a loose cable or something), that would be awesome!

Thanks :-)

Velcro tape can work well. Just use the fuzzy half

Velcro tape can work well. Just use the fuzzy half

Do you think it'd fit between the dash and windscreen though?

Mine did this as well.  I tried velcro and silicone grease and they worked for a few days ... but the only solution that permanently worked for me (over 3 years with no squeaks now) was to insert fibre washers between the plastics wherever they were attached with screws, and to make sure that the screws were fully tightened up.  The squeaks were due to the plastics rubbing together.

I dunno. I never had to do that bit.

the gap is a bit variable on cars.
