ADvice on replacing radio/cd please !

Featured Replies

I've had my lovely RS for about 6 months now and am thinking of replacing the radio cassette and autochanger. Has anyone any advice on whether I need to replace speakers as well ?

Hi Jane and welcome to the forum.

3 choices.

1. leave them alone and see how you get on

2. There are a couple of mods that people are doing. Disconect the tweeters in the back door is one, the other involves doing "something" with the lining near the front door speakers. I'm sure someone will enlighten you on the "something".

3. Replace the front speakers with some decent component ones and fit some 6x9 speakers in the rear shelf. You may want to add an amp for tthe rear speakers.

Sorry I can't help much with option 2, but I went straight for option 3.

Welcome on board!

Depends what you are after, but basically yes, I would seriously consider swapping the fronts at least.

The Pioneer 6"s work quite well in the front doors.

(oh, and look in the FAQ for the "disconnecting the rear tweeters" trick - you'll be surprised at the difference!)

Thanks for the speedy response. Will try the tweeters thing but not too sure about cutting holes in the door lining though !

Thats fair enough, we only share what we have tried and made a difference, offer no liability!! :D

Have a browse through the FAQ's, that's what they are there for!

(you'll want it chipped in no time 8) )

Welcome

If you change the head unit you will have to upgrade the auto changer which will mean running a new cable from the boot to the new head unit.

See my pics on mannys website to see what it looks like or i can send you some

Alternatively you can as has already been said upgrade the existing speakers and disconnect the rear tweeters and fit some 6x9 in the parcel shelf

Believe me the difference is staggering

Hi there,

I had thoughts of changing the head unit for a more upmarket system, but replaced the speakers having been told that this was the best course of action. I went for a component system from Rockford Fosgate. Fitting was a breeze and the crossover system supplied prevents the tweeters from making your ears bleed!

The Skoda unit performs surprisingly well with these, just gotta watch the water when opening the tailgate

Cheers,

Ian

I just went mad and spent a grand on;

MB Quart component speakers all round

Genesis AMP

JL Sub in Box

Pioneer head unit and changer

All fitted properly

Sounds fantastic, but i'm sure you can get decent sounds for less

NB this was fitted by ICE Direct in Peterborough - they were flabbergasted how well put together the RS was and promptly put their fitting prices up for Skodas afterwards!! 8)
