1.4 tdi vibration

Featured Replies

I have an early '56 plate roomster1 with the 70hp 1.4tdi, which has been good up to now, but has started running really rough at ticker over it improves slightly as revs increase but never clears completely. It pulls very well & performs as it should & has had a replacement injector loom. Could this be a balancer shaft problem, if you put the car up on the ramp at tickover & go underneath there is a slight chain rattle from the sump, but this is not noticeable from above & certainly not when you are driving. Anyone had a similar problem? if so what was it?

Hello Midlincs2,

I had this same engine in a MK 1 Fabia prior to the Roomster. What mileage has it done? Do you use a fuel additive to keep the injection system clean? Do you watch the MPG journey average feature? Has it altered recently for the worse? Or better still do you keep a logbook with tankfull to tankfull records, so as to acurately calculate MPG? I can thoroughly recommend regular use of Millers Ecomax Sport additive, about £11 a 500ml bottle, put a double-dose in to begin with at first fill-up.

Don't know if the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve might want pulling apart and cleaning, I suspect the Fabia's did as was starting to smell exhaust fumes coming into cabin, suspect was leaking out under bonnet, but I traded it in for the Roomster....!

Keep us posted.

Richard.
