Servicing costs

Featured Replies

Still yet to bite the bullet, but am very tempted by some very good contract hire quotes I am getting.

I am looking at the 2.0tdi 150 4x4 L&K.

I am still deciding if we should go for two or three year, so am thinking about servicing costs.

What are the service intervals and the costs for the services? Will only be doing around 10k miles per year, maybe less.

And how are the Yetis on tyres? Are they likely to be OK and still good at 3 years with general use and the above miles?

Cheers

3 years fixed servicing will cost under £400 for 3 services. Variable a bit more for 2. You may be able to get away with 2 fixed and save. Not sure about tyre on the 150 4x4 I'd have thought you would get 30k out of a set. My 1.2 seems to wear them at about 1 mm every 7000 miles but it's lighter and less powerful

I'd go for it. It's going to be no worse than anyone else and its a great car.

at 10k miles I'd switched to fixed servicing otherwise it is every 2 years or 20k miles.

My 1.2 is still on its original tyres at 3 and a half years old

Just trying to work out overall costs of the two year deals compared to the three year, having as few services as I can get away with to keep the cost down. As, the car will be going back at the end of the term.

Could I take the variable option and just have one service in year two and then not need one again before the end of year 3? how much is a variable service? Would that work?

My first vairable service was at 16000miles and cost £220. The second looks like it is going to be at 28000. I'd be surprised if you could only get away with one service but your engines different to mine.

Ok thanks.

So on fixed service over three years. I would have a minor service (£139) plus a major (£259) plus possibly another minor. Or over two years I may have just one minor then possibly a major?

Didn't Laurel say that to Hardy in one film...

I have had a 140 HP 4x4 from new and the factory fitted tyres (Dunlop) did no more than about 22k miles. I then fitted Goodyear FourSeasons all weather tyres which have been fantastic, have done another 22k miles and I reckon have another 10k in them. Their performance on snow and ice is terrific, their water displacement in heavy rain is equally impressive. So your tyre question depends on what you get from the factory.

Out of interest, what sort of contract hire quotes are you getting?

It's complicated as I have various options. But to say I am looking at around £500 deposit and £205 per month is about right. Pretty much same for two or three year hire. Thats through skoda/VWFS after a lot of haggling based on a decent quote I have from a broker through Arval.

The deals very good I think, its just knowing which way to take it and if it definitely suits our circumstances and if we do, if we go for two or three years.
