Skoda main agents put wrong oil in my engine- should they pay?

I think it does do the oil temp but monitors when it needs a service somehow

Not aure exactly. Someone will know!

Edit: just had a search around on this.

Nobody seems to know for sure, but a few people seem to think it sensors the oil temp. So can tell if its doing lots of short trips (should be replaced sooner) or more long trips (its better to get the oil up to temp). So somehow works out when it thinks the oil should be changed.

So basically it tries to work out 'wear and tear' on the oil.

However, 504 is a better grade so should last longer than 502 should it not.

Ah ok I see.

Yeh regardless the 504 is more expensive and better grade oil and that's what they charged me for... but I didn't get it.

Be interested to see what everyone thinks about whether the oil sensor can monitor the grade of oil?

Yeah. I still think they should chanfe your oil to 504 free of charge.

Its their mistake, not yours

Confused now. post #26 & post #1.

If the Invoice is for 4.2 Litres of VW 504 00  5w 30 Full Synthetic Long Life OIl at £13.00 a litre.

?

How do you know as said in post #1 that they used VW 502 00 5w 40 Full Synthetic.

Do the Workshop Notes show VW 502 00  & the Invoice VW 504 00

No way in this world was the Service Indicator reset in November 2014.

Neither for Servicing in 372 Days / 9,400 Miles,  Or reset as for Variable Service 'Oil Filter'.

Who ever at the Dealership you are speaking to is keeping on digging a bigger hole.

Either no Knowledge or lying.

Simple as.

.....................

Speak with the Dealer Principal,

Tell Him / Her that they are going to have to have the oil from your engine analyzed by a Laboratory

or you can Arrange with Trading Standards to have the Oil Drained and tested.

Put this in Writing to the Dealership,

& Forward to Skoda UK Customer Services since they are the Warranty Provider.

Best call Skoda UK Customer Services, get a Customer Services Manager to Call you back.

They need the Technical Department to talk with the Dealership Workshop Manager & Master Technician

and the Factory CZ.

Something wrong badly if a 1.2 TSI 105 ps on a Variable Service Codes Oil only does 6,000 miles

on the correct grade of oil.

You can provide Fuel Receipts i take it to show where and when you buy Diesel.

The only error seems to maybe be at the Dealership Workshop & Service Desk.

RE Post #18,  Update today.

Reception, Service Manager or Workshop Manager, Technician, Master Technician. Dealer Principal or all of them.

That's what I thought-  but the mechanic who I spoke to swore blind that on a variable service the car could very reasonably be due a service after such a short period of time...

They is the mechanic/technician who I spoke with- sorry should have mentioned this before...

Conveniently there is no name just two signatures which aren't recognisable to make an informed guess of the persons name who signed off the paperwork...

Update

The have agreed to replace the oil to 504 00 and reset the service light FOC.

Is this the best I could hope for?

And will it have done any damage to the car- running it on the wrong oil for variable service intervals...

Signatures are not an issue.

The Service Details carried out are all on the Dealership Computer,

and the 'Technician' that carried out the work should be easy for them to check.

So they can refund you the over payment you made where they overcharged & never followed the Manufacturers Service Schedule / Guidelines on a car on Variable Servicing being serviced early.

Then the can look closer at the Work Carried out, and how the Dealership intends to resolve the error by their employees.

Talk to the Dealership Manager or Dealer Principal, not those covering up errors,

they must do them regularly if they think all petrol engines just get VW 502 00 Full Synthetic Oil.

EDIT.

Sorry missed the post above while typing and post not sending.

Result.

But they should have accepted the mistake as theirs straight off.

You cant ask for much more than that!

No. No damage at all. All youve done is a oil change 3k miles sooner than its due with the 502 they put in, which is good.

Grab a beer and chill. Good outcome (:

Hi Everyone,

I purchased my new fabia monte carlo tech 1.2 105 tsi in Dec 2013.

The car was serviced in Nov 2014 after doing 12,500 miles.

Anyway, I was driving it last week and a message displayed on the dash saying: inspection due in 200 miles.

The car has only done 18,500 miles- which means it's only done 6,000 miles  (7 months) since its last service so I thought this was strange.

Anyway, I looked into it and my car is on a 'Variable Service Interval' which means during oil changes it requires VW 504 00 Oil Spec. I looked at the service notes from Nov 2014 and they put VW 502 00 Oil Spec (aka the wrong oil :dull: )

I have two questions:

1. Will mixing the VW 504 00 Oil and VW 502 00 Oil do damage to my engine?

2. Should they be paying for this service because they put the wrong oil in the engine!!

Thanks in advance for your help guys :)

I've come into this topic a few days late.  It appears to me that you do have a problem with the garage providing the wrong oil.  But you are also suffering from the same problem that I had last year.  This is that the dealers do not understand the display on our cars, my garage could not reset mine properly and it was on this forum 9 months later that I found out how to do it myself.  I have a Fabia 1.2 TSi similar in age to yours and our cars have two displays that come up on the Maxidot.  One is the Service due the other is Inspection due, your garage have failed to reset the Inspection display.  Check your Maxidot and it should show another mileage for the next service.  Hopefully they reset this at your last service and it shows the correct mileage to your next service due.  I think though you are right to chase them to have the correct oil put into the engine.

Thank you very much for all your help- car is in tomorrow so I will let you know what happens :)

This sounds like the issue- it's on the Maxidot displaying inspection due...

How do I check the mileage to the next service? If the car has done 18k roughly how many miles should it display until the next service due?

Any good links to read up on how to reset the inspection/service due screen...

They are resetting it, it then might show 0000 or what ever for a while, then read how far to the Next Oil / Filter Change.

If the car is not being Serviced, as in Other Service Items that a car needs checked and maintained then ask them

what they are going to set it at.

You need to scroll to Settings on your Maxidot and then scroll down to Service.  This will display the mileages and number of days to 1. Service Due and 2. Inspection due.  If you have the same handbook as I have for my car it is on page 15 or look up Maxidot in the index at the rear of the book.  If the mileage to your next service is displayed and it looks right then, as goneoffSki mentioned, you will probably not want to have the garage reset the display as this will mean that other things within the service will have been left for an increased mileage before the next service becomes due.  I would mention this to the garage as they may not be clever enough to think about it and will reset automatically. Good luck with it.

I've looked at my Maxidot.

It says 1. Service due :12,500

2. Inspection due: now

Can somebody quickly explain the difference to me, between the Service due and Inspection Due?

I will also ring the garage and tell them not to reset the service one.

Many Thanks

An Oil & Filter Change is not a 'Service', it is a Oil & Filter Service.

A Service is Inspection and Preventive Maintenance.

Check and top up other fluids, Brake, Clutch. Washer Fluid etc car dependent.

Check Rubber, Tyres, Wipers,

Inspect Brakes, Adjust, Lube Hinges, Inspect Steering & Suspension etc etc.

Then there are Replacement Consumables and Schedules / Guidelines.

Brake Fluid Change, Air , Cabin & Fuel Filters, Spark Plugs, Alarm Sirens, Tyre Gunk expires by Date.

Cam Belt Changes maybe including Water Pump. (engine Dependent)

Different things.

Minor and Major Servicing is often not these days, and Variable Oil & Filter Servicing is even more confusing.
