Voice control in a Yeti

Featured Replies

I retrofitted a Columbus (2010 version) to a 2010 Yeti Elegnace that has factory fitted BT.

What do I need to do to get voice control of the Columbus working?

Is it the same as the Octavia Mk2? i.e. a wire swap to change the routing of the microphone.

Anyone done this and can advise?

Was it a Bolero before kb? If it did not have voice control then mic would have been straight into the BT module and you would just need to re route the mic via the in and out mic pins on the back of the Columbus. It probably won't have the simple white plugs on the loom to swap over to emulate the re routing because its factory fit.

No white plugs: that would be too forward thinking for Skoda.

Yes, it was a Bolero before the Columbus went in.

I'll read through the Mk2 Octavia threads as it sounds like it'll be the same as those.

Basically I think I need to remove the two microphone pins from the BT plug, extend these back to the quadlock. Take the two pins from the back of the quadlock and extend them to the BT plug.

Is that about the size of it?

Or is there an easier way?

Find the microphone IN wires (coming into the BT mode) near the BT plug, find the microphone OUT wires (leaving the plug) and swap them over?

Currently, your plan is basically option two which should work OK although not easy to reverse.

A better plan (assuming like me, you don't want to modify stock wiring) might be to use the part numbers mentioned in option one to create a wire between the mic and the headunit and then a second from the headunit to the BT module. This means the only modification to the existing wiring is to remove the existing mic pins from the BT connecter and replace with your own. This should keep the wires to their shortest and have fewest connections for best sound quality.

As langers says option 2 is what you say and essentially the job. When I did it on my mates factory loom we made a pair of simple looms using two repair wires which we simply soldered into the two mic wires in the bt loom after we cut them.

Each 'loom' was made from a repair wire cut in two, with each leg lengthened to go into the bt loom.

The pinout on that page mentions pin pairs 1&7 and 4&9 which certainly rings a bell.

My car is at the dealer's this week so I can't check, but have been doing some internet research...

The microphone should currently run to pins 11 & 12 on the BT plug.

Is there going to be anything connected to pins 1 & 7 or 4 & 9 of the Quadlock 'C' connector at present?

I wouldn't expect so, the factory kit should bypass the quadlock completely so they should be free.

Thanks.

That's what I thought from the research I've been doing but wasn't sure if there was a 'mic out' from the BT module to the headunit quadlock or not.

What I'm thinking now is to:

  • Unplug pins 11 & 12 (mic in) from the BT connector;
  • Use a 2 pin connector (so the factory fitted terminals do not need to be damaged and so it is removable) to join it to long wires going to pins 1 & 7 on the Columbus Quadlock;
  • Run two long repair wires (which I will make up) from pins 4 & 9 of the Quadlock back to the BT connector;
  • Connect these wires to pins 11 & 12 of the BT connector.

Does that sound about right?

I would say so yes.
