Notchy gear change

Featured Replies

Just had my car back in and finally got the flywheel sorted, turns out I had a faulty new part fitted. For some reason I now seem to be having another issue. Second gear is a little sticky to engage, happens when cold and when warm. Other gears also seem to need a little bit more force to get in. Is it likely to be selector cables? it is only sticky at the very start of selection, once past the first inch is totally free moving the rest of the way.

It's possible that the cables haven't been routed properly once everything was put back together, or something is getting in the way.  I don't know very much about the selector mechanism on Octavias, but this would be the first thing I'd check.  Do the cables have to be disconnected to get the gearbox out of the way for the flywheel swap?

I'll have a good look later, I guess anything could have been moved.cheers

Try resetting the linkage first. They might not have done it properly.

Dead easy to do :)

Did you change the gear box oil and use genuine oil?

That looks like the same one I used on my old Fabia vRS.

Well! that has to be the easiest fix in history! It now feels like my gearstick is broken its moving so easily lol. Cheers Softscoop, I owe you one ;)

Glad to be a help :)

If your ball joint is worn, you can also put a shim down the side to further improve the change :)

More importantly, a good tip too...
