Ocy vRS 4wd or not ?????

Featured Replies

From what I understand the current and next gen Ocy vRS is FWD. Is there any plans to ever make it 4x4 capable like the A3 1.8TQuattro or Golf 4motion ?

Has anyone done a conversion where they've put the running gear from a ocy 4x4 into a vRS ?

The reason I ask is I might opt out of a coy car when it's due for renewal and get a octy vRS with the allowance. But when I mod it I don't want over 200bhp going through just the front wheels

Cheers all

Don't think anyone has done it but it is pretty much a pointless job....you can mod a 1.8T 4X4 to a RS in term of performance and add things like the interior' date=' bumpers, wheels etc.

Many members are running above 200bhp...at the wheels or fly wheel....without any problems...you just hav eto exert a little more control with the right foot. ;)

4x4s are only owned by people with upward sloping gardens ;)

As Stuart said, get a 4x4 and mod that if you really need the security of 4x4 or you have a steep garden to cross to get to the garage.

the 4x4 gear would never fit a vRS, they have a different floor pan.

the vRS is just a normal 1.8T octavia with lower/stiffer suspension, slightly bigger front brakes and a different map giving it 30bhp more. if your looking at serious modding then dont waste your money on the vRS and get an elegnce with its higher spec and same potential :)

:nono: Like diesels are only owned by taxi drivers, I suppose.

is that a dig at my sexuality?

are you calling me a marmite miner??

are you suggesting that i like to bite the pillow???

Yeah know what you mean about the floor plan, the A3/Golfs are different as well.

Here's some more questions then .......

Ocy 4x4 runs the haldex system yes ? And it has slightly higher suspension than a standard ocy ?

If I get an Ocy I 4x4 will eibach kits or the like fit ? .... enough to drop it to vRS levels ?

I don't want the 4x4 for the off-roady stuff, just for better launches, and with a haldex controller upgrade get more of a 40/60 power layout front to back, plus a quicker transfer of power to the back wheels at launch.

Also I know the 180bhp 1.8T in the A3 is not just a re-mapped version of of 150bhp as it's diff turbo (ko3s if think). Does any one know what the engine code for the vRS is ? If it's the same as the A3 then I know for def and can take it to at least 260 - 270 bhp by adding a second intercooler and S3 turbo or even past 300bhp if I go with a IHI kit.

Cheers all

same turbo on 4x4 and vRS.

IIRC Eibach don't do springs for 4X4.....you're more the likely have to go the coilovers route.

No point going second SMIC....better go FMIC route...more efficient and probably not much mor expensive.

IHI will take it past 300bhp but you will need an FMIC. Past 320bhp you will more than likely need internals sorted.

The vRS engine is AUQ, the 4X4 ARX and the standard 150bhp 1.8T is AUM. For tuning purposes these are essentially one and the same engine mechanically.

Ah, AWD. By the time the power gets to the wheels you've lost anything up to 40% through the drivetrain! My scooby was losing masses of power through drivetrain loss on a rolling road, which hurts the pocket because then you want to add bigger turbo, injectors, FMIC, get new remap . . . eek.

not so sure about the reasoning about not having a smic. Most of my knowledge about the 1.8T is from owning an A3 Quatty before my old A4 TDI. The general concensous in the Audi tuning world was that a FMIC helped but the SMIC of an S3/TT engine was better.

Suspension wise though doesn't matter what make the kit is just need to know wether I can get one that takes a 4x4 down to the vRS level.

This is what I'm planning to do;

Purchase a L&K spec black 4x4 estate with the 1.8T

Body/interier mods

lower with suspension kit

vRS body kit

Blue/red internal light mod

Headunit upg to SatNav

A8 or RSTT Reps (18inch poss 19 dunno yet)

Engine

most prob IHI turbo upgrade with SMIC & FMIC if there's space

440 cc injector upgrade with uprated S3 internals (conrods etc)

Need advice on best exhaust for Ocy

Blueflame are the only people who do a dp for the 4x4..I believe....have to go to BF to get it though as it's a custom job....comes with a 100cel cat.

Cat back...choice is yours.

On my last RR run I had 17% losses on my 4x4, it's a much more efficient system than found on Scoobies.

Catback is custom only too as the 4x4 system is different to all the others due to the haldex and spare wheel well.

yeah the haldex unit isn't permenent 4WD like scoobys or A4 quatty upwards. It's a clutch based system which engages when the controller detects wheel spin at the front.

You can get upgrated controllers which engage quicker and push more power to the back straight than a standard one

Yep, I'm getting one soon.

Forgot to say my 4x4 is approx. vRS ride height using H&R springs. Have a look in my gallery for pics.

Sorry Bengie, I forgot to mention the benefits of the 4x4 estate. :(

Main one is that you can pack an awful lot of fudge in the boot :hbomb: :shhh: :haha:

i cant see my A4 loosing as much(i maybe wrong) as 40% like the scoobies as my car only has an extra 7-8bhp over an octy vRS and the performance figures are as near dammit the same. feels acceleration too

In case you missed it this is mine lowered with KW V3 suspension, approx RS height & has the scope to go lower but Its grounded a few times at this level

Flame do a custom system with sports cat, I believe there is a group buy running, something like

40% is quite a lot, mine was losing at most 30% (assuming that the rolling road was accurate)..... On the road, you couldn't really tell that though, especially in the Twisties ;)

What tell you were loosing power throught the drive train or tell that the 4WD was doing it's job ?
