Puncture and Slight Damage to door

Featured Replies

Yesterday, I was out for a drive in my Leon when I got a puncture and pulled into the side of the road where I damaged the wheel on the kerb and scratched and slightly dented my car door, so I went to get a quote to repair the damaged door and found the bodyshop could do it for less an my insurance excess(£250) and as my insurance doesn't cover damage to wheels caused by punctures so i ordered a new alloy from the Car dealer, so my question is should I tell my insurance company or not (i'm due to renew soon)?

no, it hasn't cost them anything so none of there business and didn't involve anyone else.

if you do they will use it as an excuse to charge you more as you are more of a risk

What are you considering telling your insurers? That you had a puncture? Because that's all that I can think of from reading your post.

If you ever take your car into the garage for a service, and need to use your insurance for a loan car for the day while it's being serviced, just make sure they don't think you're having an accidental damage repair done when in effect you're only having a routine service and maintenance which might take a little longer than a day, hence the need for a loan car.

as above can't see anything to inform your insurance company as no third party was involved and you are not making a claim as it would only inflate your risk and increase you premium

If you ask your insurer they will always say you should tell them. In fact, even if all you do is phone up to enquire you might find that affecting your premiums.

I they don't need to know don't tell them.

TBH It's not worth claiming unless the damage is significantly above your excess since the premium increase for the next 3yr needs to be added in too. I used to run a big excess since I was never going to claim unless the damage was really bad.
