Need some help with Coilovers

Featured Replies

Hello. I purchased my Octavia VRS yesterday. Apparently it was on this website along with many other VRS owners clubs as it was once running 350 BHP + until Pistons were shot!

It then had a full BAM conversion and remap and is now running apparently at 250 bhp + but yet to have that clarified.

It's sat on pro sport coil overs. I'm getting a rubbing noise from the rear passenger side but I've had a look and there is no contact anywhere? I've never had coil overs so was wondering if there's anything I need to do. The ride is pretty low all round so i will be raising all round as speed humps have became my nemesis!

I also have the oil light on but have been told it's a common fault. Oil is good level and very clean. I also get a bit of smoke when it's idling but once driving it clears. But sit and idle again it comes back. I know it's had a performance remap as it's always boosting even when trying to keep off boost.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm located in birmingham so if anyone wishes to run me through some stuff personally and have a look over it with me. I'd pay for time or if you can recommend someone local to me that would be great

Thanks.

Also if I turn hard right the noise doesn't increase with the lean which I thought it should if there was something rubbing. When turning left the noise stops.... Which is why I think it's something todo with coil overs. When I first took the car I thought the noise was the exhaust. As that's how it sounds. Like a loud cat. This does have a sports cat. So if there is no visible rubbing from coil overs could it be the cat/exhaust? Even with what I've explained about turning etc. Please help! I want to drive lol.

The oil light may be a blocked pickup pipe - a common problem with the 20VT. I'd get that seen to right away! It is not an expensive fix and can be a diy job, but two of the sump bolts are very hard to get to. I went to a garage!

Can't help with the coilovers - I looked at fitting them, but decided against it and fitted Koni shocks and matched lowered springs. Cost more, but the ride is still very comfortable.

This has had a full BAM conversion. I've worked on all my cars myself including Rx8s and BMWs. But a turbo engine I've never played with. Ill take it to a garage I think. Until I've got abit more knowledge on these engines. Anything else I should get looked at whilst it's in? Common issues?

Generally speaking, the 20VT is a very reliable engine. The only two issues I'm aware of are the oil pickup pipe and make sure the cambelt has been checked/replaced.

I think the issue us a wheel bearing. As tgere no contact anywhere from wheels to body etc. I'm also suffering from a bit of smoke. It has a performance cat on it. The smoke clears abd re appears. It mostly occurs when idling at lights and pulling off I'll get a cloud. It runs like a dream. No oil loss no water loss. No misfires or lumpyness. No visible leaks etc. Any ideas what this could be? I have the Orange oil light on. I mentioned about the pickup and he said that the only reason that light would be on is due to a sensor. Not pickup. What issues would I have if pickup was blocked or blocking.

You won't see symptoms till expensive damage is done due to oil starvation, I wouldn't be driving it till the problem is found mate, could be oil pump too

Orange light is level sensor.

Orange light is level sensor.

Doh, I'll just climb back under the rock I came from, sorry to the op for the misleading cack I posted above, it's the red oil light I was referring to

In that case don't drive it! Red light is low oil pressure. The most likely cause is a blocked oil pickup. That is not a difficult or expensive thing to fix and is a very common problem on this engine, whatever car it is fitted in.

There are other possible causes - I've even seen an Octavia with a wiring fault that made the red oil light come on constantly, but that's unlikely to be the problem. The only way to check the pickup pipe is to drop the sump, unfortunately!

So the Orange oil light is nothing to worry about? Just faulty sensor I believe. Any ideas on the smoke issue. It clears and re appears. Sooo strange. It's as if it's running rich. I have found a tub of two stroke inthe boot and I know some people will mix two stroke with there fuel. Is that a possible cause? I'm just clutching at straws. It's pretty embarrassing when pulling off and a cloud of smoke engulfs the vehicles behind. Lol.

I've been to a mechanic today. He says the noise is not a wheel bearing but tyres. I have two rear winter tyres which are also run flats. He says the noise is them. And smoke is due to the conversion. And remap. This has full bam 225 conversion with I think the k04 turbo. Is that right? I think it's about 240-250 bhp. Which may be running a little rich. He says it would be hard to determine the issue as it is to do with the ecu and the brains as he said. Of the vehicle. Does this sound right. This is the first car I've owned which has had the work done before I've owned. But of a headache tbh.

And if so if running rich is that a bad thing? There seems no issues. Drives faultless. Very responsive. Very fast.
