Skoda Felicia Service / Knocking noise

Featured Replies

I bought the Mrs a Felicia a few months ago, T Reg 1.3 LXi with only 74k Miles on the clock for peanuts so far ive been super happy with the car,

Did an oil and filter change along with new spark plugs today ( one of the easiest changes ive done)

I know the bottom engine mount is gone and i've got one of the way seems an easy job to do,

but i can hear a clicking noise coming from around the front near side when i turn the steering wheel left or right, i've checked for any obvious loose bits but unable to track it down,

Any Ideas?

Is it a repeated clicking or just a one off when you turn the wheel?

it goes Click click click click as you turn the wheel

Cv joint maybe?

i thought that but doesnt click when you drive forwards of backwards, only clicks with turning of the wheel, might pop the gators off when ive got the mount to change next weekend and have a look

Your logic is wrong. CV joints start knocking first only in corners. When they start knocking also going straight, they are totally shot.

Yeah it's normally the outer joints that wear out because they have a much higher range of operating angles.

So pop the gator off and have a look with the wheel off? Is it worth trying to repair or just replacing the drive shaft?

Don't bother changing outer joints. Change the whole axle. They are cheap enough, definitely well balanced, and easier to replace as a whole.

a new driveshaft is about £50 from euro car parts, but that would involve draining and refilling the gearbox oil which is a little tricky..

If your outer cv joint is worn there's no point opening it up to have a look, you won't see much and you will get filthy dirty from the grease.

if it was me I would just replace the outer joint.
