2010 1.2tsi golf

Featured Replies

Opinions problems etc?one for sale whuch is in the budget for replacing the citigo with something a bit bigger - need boot space for small person stuff... fabia, fiesta, corsa, etc boot is too small

its this, a rio if she likes the drive of it, or maybe a 208 if we found one in the correct spec...

Wantimg petrol as 90% of driving it will do is short round town stuff but since emissions taxing in 2008 everything availanle second is feckin diesel

I'd take a Golf over a Kia Rio or Peugeot 208 assuming that they are all around the same age.

If the 1.2 TSi engine is the same as the one fitted to the Octavia then it is a great little engine.

Rio is a 2012/3 so pretty new, 208 is a 2013....

Going up to the size class increases the age of vehicle in our budget. Theres a few 2011 golfs too but they are too far away and mostly 1.4s which is pointless for the driving it will do.

theres not a lot else around tbh that we like or want..

havnt gotten to drive a rio yet or this golf i only spotted today. Had the 208 for a good drive. Its comfy and quiet but gearbox is typically ****e even swmbo, who never thougjt her 206 was clunky..., said it was quite noisy changing gears.. drove both the 1.0 68bhp & 1.2 84bhp iirc variants.and both are the same. Lot more go in the 1.2 but doesnt feel as lively as the citigo.. which is only a 60bhp..

The 2010 1.2 TSI might suffer from the camchain issues!

Yes you see i knew there was something in relation to them...

ill be passing by today to and from work, so might take it for a drive. If i like what i see ill be asking then straight up about the camchain issue - its in a vw & seat dealers (with a skoda service centre too, was an audi dealer until they lost thatfranchise courtesy if the economy tanking and got a seat franchise instead) so they should be well aware of it.

My wife has a 2011 golf 1.2. It broke down and we got towed to the local skoda dealer. While there they spotted the cam chain was rattling. We tackled vw who had serviced it a month earlier about why they'd not spotted it. As a goodwill gesture they reduced the repair costs from £1200 to £120

Mmm... i may be doing some googling on how to spot the issue later on then. And may even look at getting it replaced as a bargaining tool on the price..

A bit OT but the Rio of the age you describe is also pretty good..and if its 2013 you will still have 4/5 years warranty left!

Thats the attraction on the rio. Its pretty new and still loads of warranty left. And has as much if not more kit as standard..

The mother in law has a 208

Spent a lot of time in the garage that thing, wouldn't have one personally

As for the cam chain am I right in thinking they were improved after 2012-ish?

Only asking in case I decide on a remap

Tbh i think the noise of gear box has put herself off the pug. Thankfully. It was never really on my radar but when the travel system fits in the boot - which it doesnt in the citigo nor the fabia, fiesta, corsa, A1, polo, micra (asif id let that happen if 2would fit...) - the 208 became a possibilty. And tbf, swmbk had a 206 that never gave a millisecond of trouble except for awkwardness of changing bulbs. And her mam had 2 of em which were also never a problem...

my wife's golf is a great car, really feels solid and well made, drives really well and is economical

You should hear it rattling i think. Especially on a start up from cold.

we didn't and neither did the VW dealer apparently. THere was a recall to modify it a couple of years ago, I'd like to see prof from them that they had fixed it

That makes me feel a bit more like stopping at lunch tomorrow...

So.. todays update. The golf was sold last friday.... sickened.

but i found a very handy website which has the detail of nearly every vehicle on the market on it fully measured for evaluating suitability for use by disabled persons. According to their figures the 2012 Yaris 5door may well be a fit and.. theres 4 of them for sale in my town for 2k less than equivelent fabia ibiza etc...

Honda Jazz?

Very solid little car with a lot of room. Owners seem to love them as does the JD Power survey.

You can haggle extended warranty with Honda for not a lot more money.

Honestly did consider it but wrote it off on looks...

swmbo wasnt gone on it eithrr.

Fair enough it is boxy.

I get a bit confused. (Easy to do.)  Where people want Cheap to Buy & Run, want Space,

then get fussy on how a car looks.

It is just transport, so surely, Space, Comfort, Suitability, Cost, Reliability come before looks. (that includes wives as well.)

Other wise why do people buy and hire the likes of a Fiat 500 L.   (No mention on who they marry.)

Space and cost & reliabilty are our biggest factors with the looks next. Space has 3 factors -

room for baby transport gear plus other things in the vehicle.

kerbside space available - our house only has a drive for 1 car and kerb outside. Anything longer than a golf (which is a squeeze) parked on kerb means vehicle in drive is blocked in.

Driver confidence- swmbo doesnt want a big car as she doesnt like having to park it. The staff carpark in her work is not big.. i feel claustrophobic parking in there.. and our town is litter with **** drivers who cannot park properly so a small(er) car is easier slot into the crap spaces available.

Cost - our income is healthy, bit with the xost of living as it is, our mortgage is hefty as its only over 10yrs due to the bank being arsy at the time. Only 5yrs left thoigh so there are benefits. But it means our savings are reasonable but are therw to cover annual big ticket items - health insurance car insurance house insurance etc. Nwither of us likes debt or borrowing so being able to straight buy rather than finance is far more appealling even if it limits our overall choice.

reliabilty dictates it too. Clio has mixed reviews even though stuff will fit so its gone. Loads of puntos and pandas but again... not going there..

thus the short list which gets shorter as the factoes take their affect is quite limited in terms of what we can pick from. And at the end of the day, swmbo is a teacher so driving around in car which draws the attn of students for being a bit funny looking (the jazz which looks like a little van and is principly driven by pensioners) opens the door for them to do as they do - poke fun...

thus an ordinary looking car that noone notices gets added to the requirements.

Man that ended up a bit long..

anyqay going driving yarises after work so we shall see qhat happens next :)

What wrong with a 1.2 octy , its a golf with a big boot , price should be cheaper than golf allowing a newer higher spec to be bought

too big for the space available for parking unless one of us starts walking off around the corner to park up..

looked at the yaris, boot is qite snug for baby stuff thougj it does fit. Looked at and drove an auris too same 1.33 petrol as the yaris we looked over. Nice drive, 2012, so older shape but comfy. Unfortunatly with the trade in value offered its out side the budget unless we stretch more than wed like to.. goddam it
