Darkside hardpipes - issues with bottom pipe :(

Yeah they are worth a try but might bend abit if they are flimsy.

I'm not 100% sure what you mean.

The insides will always line up, the oil feed and return are always 180° from each other.

You don't want to clock the exhaust side at all, so make sure it goes back in the same place you took it apart.

The boost side (usually shiny side) can be clocked and rotated basically as much as you want.

I mean, to rotate mine (boost side) i marked the correct position to be in line with the oil return.. i was just wondering if that sounds right. As in theory everyone's should be in the same place, as in factory position.

Normally off the PD130 turbo etc the outlet points straight down.  Why is that red pipe coming in at an angle like 45 degrees.  I am more used to see a pipe coming straight down, then a 90 degree bend

Ah right, yeah that sounds about right.

Basically if you hold it up against a wall or flat surface as if it's fitted the lower side of the compressor housings should almost line up with it and be close to touching the wall also.... If that makes sence.

For what it takes to pop it on the car and put a stud or two in place it might be worth doing that if your not sure. :)

Ye thats fine i did mark it, just double checking .. before i **** it up lol

Cheers fella you have been a great help

No worries :)

Hmm so ive got it all back together ...

Turbo is making a grinding noise :(

Car / turbo does nothing in 1st second .. seems like limp mode car stuck on 15k revs, third gear turbo works... wonder if something is sticking .. actuator arm ?

When turn car off, there is a load vaccum air noise for around 5 seconds +

Any ideas?

Can you feel the actuator arm?

You should be able to push it down and feel it spring back.

It should be nice and smooth since you've just cleaned it so will push down a fair bit nice and smoothly.

It was before fitting back on, haven't tried it after fitting.

Im more worried about the grinding noise and the vaccum build up tbh...but i will check the arm tomorrow

Pop the inlet pipe to the turbo off and take a photo of the compressor blades to see if there damaged.

I'm afraid I can't help you with the other problems. You could try and message faboka for assistants.

will do, glad i replaced that dam clip for a t clamp now :)

Btw the vacuum thing wasn't happening post turbo off.

I ask incase the vnt is jammed and taking constant vacuum.

I take it you span the turbo by hand and everything was free before fitting?

Nothing can really grind inside the turbo unless it's quite knackered.

Yes it spinned freely..

The grinding noise is going more i use it:P

Ive taken a pic of the impeller from the tip end this morning it looks fine, and yes it spun freely before fitting.

 - with the strange lack of power, lower gears... if i keep tapping the accelerator, it comes alive, but if i drive normally and plant my foot there is no power, then i come on and off accelerator eventually it boosts

Oh and i checked actuator moved arm and holds pressure when it was off

You got VCDS lite? If so log group 11 and post it up. 2000 to 4500 rpm in 3rd

I have not too sure how to log > post results.. i will have a go right now ..

Thing is, if i just drive it wont get to 4500 lol, so will it artificially effect results if i pump accelerator to get boost?

I don't feel boost and logs is the problem here.

It needs to be inspected properly, even more so because the housings have been split and vnt cleaned up.

I'd be worried about the grinding noise that's getting less and less... Wait till you correct the adjustment (saying so, did you move the actuator at all? Did you mark them with tipex as I suggested to make sure everything went back in the same place?)

.....soon as it's fixed, you may find the turbo will explode.

I never cleaned the VNT, as it was all really smooth, so i didnt split anything, the only thing that was done was the retaining circlip removed, housing spun, then circlip put back.. I did remove the actuator, to get to the vnt push bar, better. Nothing was altered.

4053 2496 2556 90

If I'm reading it correctly your actuator setting has been altered, the 90 above should be a maximum of 80% at 4000rpm, ideally nearer 70.

VCDS states 70-80% at 4000rpm.

Yeah the grinding is a concern. But I also suspect the actuator is off or a fault with the vacuum.

Getting some nice over boost to 1.9 bar. Ouch

But yeah does look like it's too short. I'd lengthen 2 turns and log again.

Can you email me the log? PM me for my address

email sent, im in the middle of uploading a vid from my dash cam from that run, and one before showing odd turbo noises ...

I will put vid with my log effort :P

I've put part of the log into a graph.

Personally I think the MAP sensor is on its way out. If you look theirs parts were actual drops to around 500mbar bear in mind atmosphere pressure is around 990mbar.

I'd fit a new MAP and log again.

Check your wiring where it enters plug :)

Check your wiring where it enters plug :)

ok its not stretched tho, like ive seen some after fiting a fmic, there quite a bit of slack.

If the wiring was dodgy wouldn't this flag a vcds error
